Renowned actress Kim Hye-soo, often referred to as the 'Goddess of Chungmuro,' made a striking appearance at the Disney Showcase in Singapore. Her upcoming Disney+ series, 'Trigger,' has garnered significant attention not only in South Korea but also across the Asia-Pacific region.
On January 21, the Walt Disney Company hosted the 'Disney Content Showcase - APAC 2024' at Marina Bay Sands, where original content creators and stars from the region gathered to discuss their projects. Among them were the cast and crew of Disney+ Korea's 'Trigger,' 'Fine,' 'Hyperknife,' 'Knock Off,' and 'Nine Puzzle.'
The press conference kicked off with 'Trigger,' set to premiere in January 2025, featuring lead actors Kim Hye-soo and Jung Sung-il, along with director Yoo Seon-dong.
'Trigger' follows a team of investigative journalists who find themselves in a challenging situation as they attempt to solve the mysterious disappearance of a famous actor who vanished without a trace ten years ago. This series marks Kim Hye-soo's debut on Disney+, alongside Jung Sung-il, who gained fame from 'The Glory,' and Jo Sung-hyuk from 'Extraordinary Attorney Woo.' The project is helmed by writer Kim Gi-ryang and director Yoo Seon-dong, known for the hit series 'Amazing Rumor,' raising expectations among fans.
During the showcase, director Yoo Seon-dong described 'Trigger' as a gripping tale of investigative journalists relentlessly pursuing villains that law enforcement has failed to catch. He emphasized the show's blend of thrilling investigative work with heartfelt humanism, promising a diverse and engaging drama.
Kim Hye-soo plays the role of a determined team leader who will stop at nothing to uncover the truth. Reflecting on memorable moments during filming, Jung Sung-il recounted a humorous incident involving a scene where a live rat fell near him, leading to a surprising yet successful take. Kim Hye-soo added that the tone and manner of each case in the series vary, and she experienced a muscle injury while filming an intense scene, which ultimately contributed to the dynamic portrayal of the drama.
Director Yoo Seon-dong shared his vision for 'Trigger,' highlighting the balance between serious themes and the characters' everyday lives, ensuring the series is both entertaining and thought-provoking.
The chemistry between the cast was evident, with Kim Hye-soo praising Jung Sung-il's genuine personality and talent. She remarked on his ability to portray a range of emotions, stating, "He has a remarkable depth as an actor, and I believe viewers will be surprised by his performance."
Jung Sung-il reciprocated the praise, noting the similarities between Kim Hye-soo's real-life persona and her character's strong leadership qualities. He emphasized her authenticity and the respect she commands on set.
Interestingly, another series titled 'Trigger' is also in production on Netflix, but director Yoo Seon-dong assured that the two projects differ in genre and tone, wishing success for both.
Kim Hye-soo expressed her initial surprise at joining a Disney+ project, stating that the collaboration felt like a natural partnership, with a shared commitment to quality and creativity.
As the conversation wrapped up, both actors reflected on the joy of working together and the supportive atmosphere on set, which they hope will translate into a successful series.
