Kim Hye-soo Discusses 'Trigger' and the Impact of Fake News at Disney Showcase

At the Disney Showcase held at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore on November 21, 2024, actress Kim Hye-soo shared insights about her upcoming series 'Trigger', which tackles the issue of fake news. The event featured a press conference for original content from the Asia-Pacific region, where the production teams and stars of various Disney+ Korea originals, including 'Trigger', 'Fine', 'Hyperknife', 'Knock Off', and 'Nine Puzzle', discussed their projects.

During the 'Trigger' press conference, Kim Hye-soo, along with co-star Jung Sung-il and director Yoo Seon-dong, introduced the series, which follows an investigative journalism team facing the challenge of solving the mysterious disappearance of a famous actor who vanished without a trace a decade ago. This marks Kim Hye-soo's first project with Disney+, and it also stars Jung Sung-il, who gained fame from 'The Glory', and actor Joo Jong-hyuk from 'Extraordinary Attorney Woo'. The series is penned by writer Kim Gi-ryang and directed by Yoo Seon-dong, known for the 'Amazing Rumor' series.

In the Q&A session, the cast expressed their excitement for the show. Kim Hye-soo described her character as a highly professional team leader in the investigative journalism field, who also possesses an unconventional and free-spirited side. She humorously noted that her character embodies a 'crazy weirdo' who is committed to doing the right thing.

Kim Hye-soo elaborated, "She is relentless in her pursuit of the truth, yet she dreams of a world filled with flowers. She is a fascinating character who contemplates how to save the bad guys from doing worse things. I believe the chemistry between the characters will be enjoyable, and I chose this role because I think we will have a lot of fun filming."

In light of the current prevalence of fake news, Kim Hye-soo's role as a truth-seeking journalist carries significant relevance. She commented, "In some ways, investigative journalism can be portrayed superficially. Therefore, we have incorporated realistic and serious episodes, including the theme of fake news, to reflect the gravity of the situation."

However, she also mentioned, "To make it more accessible, we have infused humor to lighten the weight of the subject matter. The series is packed with entertainment elements, and each episode delivers different messages in a fun and engaging way."

The Disney Showcase, which took place over two days starting November 20, 2024, allowed attendees to preview upcoming works from The Walt Disney Company. Approximately 500 journalists, influencers, and Disney partners from 12 Asia-Pacific countries, including South Korea, Singapore, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and Australia, were present at the event.

'Trigger', featuring stellar performances from Kim Hye-soo and Jung Sung-il, is set to premiere on Disney+ in January 2025.
