Kim Hye-eun Issues Apology Following Controversial Post

On June 3, actress Kim Hye-eun took to her personal social media to issue a handwritten apology after facing backlash for a post that seemed to target writer Yoo Si-min's comments. In her message, she expressed her desire not to interfere with the public's observation of the election results, which had just concluded.

Kim began her apology by stating, "Hello, I am actress Kim Hye-eun. I hope to not disturb the time when the people's choice is being fully observed, so I am writing this after the vote counting has been completed. I sincerely apologize to everyone who felt discomfort or disappointment due to my post on May 31."

She acknowledged the responsibility for the feelings of those who have supported her over the years and those who were unexpectedly hurt by her words. "As someone who has spoken for a long time, I have learned once again the weight of words through this incident," she reflected.

Kim promised to remember this lesson and to become a more disciplined actress. She vowed to consider the impact of her thoughts and expressions on society more deeply and to approach her role as a public figure with caution and responsibility.

In her concluding remarks, she expressed her love for South Korea, wishing for a happy, developed nation that stands tall in the world.

Previously, on May 31, Kim had posted a lengthy message on her account, stating, "I have never felt ashamed of my education from Seoul National University as I do today. I want to apologize on behalf of those who have been judged and belittled by others." She criticized Yoo Si-min's remarks indirectly, stating, "Those who judge and belittle others are the ones with the most shameful tongues."

She specifically praised Seol Nan-young, the wife of presidential candidate Kim Moon-soo, for her dedication as a woman supporting a man's dreams and her commitment to social justice as a labor activist. Kim expressed her respect for women who have done their best in their roles, including her mother and aunt.

Kim concluded her post by stating, "I do not want to be a proud intellectual who belittles others for their education. Today, as a woman living in this era, I feel heartbroken by the harsh words that are thrown around."

Following her post, there was speculation that it was a direct response to Yoo Si-min's controversial comments made during a YouTube broadcast, where he suggested that Seol Nan-young could not aspire to certain positions in life. Although Yoo later clarified that his expression was excessive and that he did not mean to make a rational judgment, he faced significant criticism.

The ensuing debate on Kim's social media led her to engage with comments before ultimately closing the comment section and deleting the post.
