Kim Geon-hee's Alleged Involvement in Nomination Scandal Under Investigation

On July 7, the special investigation team looking into the allegations surrounding Kim Geon-hee, the wife of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, decided to summon Kang Hye-kyung, the whistleblower who first reported the claims regarding Myung Tae-kyun's involvement in the nomination process. Kang's representatives announced that they proactively contacted the investigation team to express their willingness to submit materials and attend the inquiry, stating they are currently coordinating schedules. It is expected that Kang will be questioned as a witness regarding the overall allegations. Her legal representative, Moon Geon-il, who has been representing her for over six months, will accompany her during the investigation.

Kang previously served as the deputy director of the Future Korea Research Institute, a polling firm effectively run by Myung. She has a long-standing relationship with former lawmaker Kim Young-sun, who was allegedly nominated for a by-election in June 2022 due to the influence of the former presidential couple. In September of last year, Kang revealed that Myung provided 81 polling results to the former president and his wife for free, in exchange for a nomination worth 3.75 billion won for Kim Young-sun.

Additionally, Kang has raised concerns that Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon received free polling services from Myung during the 2021 election, and that a supporter, Kim Han-jeong, allegedly compensated Myung financially in return for these services.
