Kim Byung-hyun Remembers Late Friend in Wake of Jeju Air Tragedy

Former professional baseball player and broadcaster Kim Byung-hyun paid tribute to a friend who lost their life in the recent Jeju Air plane tragedy. On December 30, he shared a photo of white chrysanthemums on his Instagram, accompanied by a heartfelt message. He wrote, "Someone's mother, father, son, daughter, brother, sister, or older sibling. My heart aches deeply. To the bereaved families, I offer my sincere condolences."
Kim specifically mentioned A (43), an employee of the Kia Tigers, who was among the victims. He recalled seeing A's Instagram posts while in the U.S., where A was enjoying a family vacation in Thailand with his wife and three-year-old nephew. "I kept liking the photos of A, his wife, and their little one, thinking about how happy he looked, saying, 'It's great to be abroad after a long time,'" Kim reflected.
He continued, "I remember A's innocent joy in marrying a beautiful wife. I feel sorry that I couldn't do more for him. I hope he finds happiness with his beloved wife and bunny-like children in the afterlife. Rest in peace."
A was reportedly on his first overseas trip with his wife B (37) and their young son when the accident occurred on their return journey. He had shared a post on Instagram during the trip, expressing his happiness despite being tired from a busy schedule, thanks to his son's playful spirit. This post has since attracted numerous tributes from friends and baseball fans.
SBS Sports announcer Jung Woo-young also honored A on the day of the accident, stating, "He was a diligent worker, and our entire baseball broadcasting team appreciated him. I was one of them. We even made plans for a blind date during a drinking session long ago. He was someone I wanted to introduce to good people."
Jung expressed his hope for a miraculous recovery but was heartbroken to learn that all but one of the passengers had perished. "He did not return, nor did his family," he lamented. He extended his condolences to A's family and the Kia Tigers, wishing to comfort the grieving communities in Gwangju and Muan, as well as himself during this sorrowful time.
