KBS2's 'The Singer in Germany' Faces Two-Week Hiatus

'The Singer in Germany' (나라는 가수 인 독일) on KBS2 will not air for two consecutive weeks due to a national mourning period and the scheduling of the '2024 KBS Acting Awards'. The show, which explores music and culture from different countries, will skip its broadcasts on January 4 and January 11. The January 4 episode is canceled in light of the national mourning following a tragic airplane accident, while the January 11 episode is set to be replaced by the awards ceremony. The program, which first aired on November 2, 2023, is currently showcasing its Germany segment after the Spain episode, featuring artists like Suzy (수지), Sunwoo Jung-A (선우정아), and Henry (헨리). Suzy's return to the stage has garnered attention as she performs emotional songs such as 'Fixing My Makeup' (화장을 고치고) and 'To You Who Don't Love Me' (나를 사랑하지 않는 그대에게). Despite achieving a peak viewership rating of 2.4% (Nielsen Korea nationwide), the show will be off the air for two weeks. Meanwhile, the '2024 KBS Acting Awards', hosted by Jang Sung-kyu (장성규), Seo Hyun (서현), and Moon Sang-min (문상민), took place on December 31, 2024, at KBS Hall in Yeouido, Seoul. The ceremony was initially set to be broadcast live but was postponed due to the national mourning period, which lasts until January 4 at midnight. Nominees for the grand prize include Lee Soon-jae (이순재) for 'Dog Barking' (개소리), Ji Hyun-woo (지현우) and Lim Soo-hyang (임수향) for 'Beauty and the Beast' (미녀와 순정남), and Kim Jung-hyun (김정현) and Park Ji-young (박지영) for 'Iron Family' (다리미 패밀리). The event will feature performances from various artists, including Kim Da-hyun (김다현) and the Yuk Joong-wan Family (육중완 패밀리). The awards ceremony has also drawn attention due to Lee Soon-jae's first public appearance after health issues and Kim Jung-hyun's long-awaited apology regarding past controversies.
