KARA's Han Seungyeon Opens Up About Diet Struggles and Regrets on 'Bodymentary'

In the recent SBS special 'Bodymentary - Confessions About 'Weight'', KARA's Han Seungyeon candidly shared her experiences with dieting dilemmas and eating disorders. During the episode aired on December 29, she discussed the pressures of weight management inherent in the idol industry, stating, "Self-management is part of being an idol, and there's no escaping it."

Han Seungyeon reflected on her career-defining moment with the song 'Mister', which led to KARA becoming the first girl group to hold a solo concert at Tokyo Dome. She recalled, "I was lucky, especially with the hip dance; I was really thin and exposed a lot," as clips of her in a crop top resurfaced.

She revealed that her heaviest weight was 46 kg, and losing 4 kg made her feel faint. A shocking moment came when her agency representative bluntly asked, "Aren't you going to lose some weight?"

Recalling her lowest weight during the 'Mamma Mia' musical, she admitted to extreme dieting and exercise, stating, "I hit my lowest weight right after 'Mamma Mia'. One day, I felt my vision go white and I lost consciousness."

Han Seungyeon also opened up about her struggles with an eating disorder, which manifested as unexplained hives that took seven years to nearly resolve. She described the stress of being unable to work as the most challenging aspect, saying, "If it got too severe, I would go to the emergency room," and mentioned her restrictive eating habits due to the belief that carbohydrates would make her gain weight.

She shared a particularly emotional moment when she was told she needed to gain 7 kg due to issues with her ears caused by weight loss, leading her to cry in front of the mirror.

Reflecting on her past, she expressed regret over an interview where she mentioned eating only seven sheets of rice paper, clarifying, "I didn't only eat rice paper, but it had a huge impact. I hope many people don't make the same mistakes; I want to share that it can lead to truly regrettable situations."
