Kang Full Discusses 'Lighting Store' After 'Moving' Success: 'It's Burdensome but Fun'

Kang Full, the creator of 'Lighting Store' (조명가게), shared his thoughts on his new project following the success of 'Moving' (무빙). On November 20, during a press conference and footage screening for the Disney+ original series 'Lighting Store' at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore, Kang Full, director Kim Hee-won, and cast members Ju Ji-hoon and Park Bo-young engaged with global journalists about the series.

'Lighting Store' tells the story of a mysterious shop that illuminates the dark corners of an alley, where customers with hidden secrets come to visit. The drama is adapted from Kang Full's webtoon of the same name, which gained immense popularity through 'Moving'.

Kang Full expressed, "As a writer, I create stories. I always focus on 'people' at the center of my narratives. When I tell a story, I consider who the characters are, how they act, and their relationships. The entire process of writing is about storytelling."

Regarding the pressure of presenting 'Lighting Store' after the success of 'Moving', he admitted, "It is burdensome. However, 'Lighting Store' is a different kind of story compared to 'Moving'. Yet, it still revolves around the characters."

He further explained, "I believe 'Moving' had a lower barrier to entry regarding superpowers. 'Lighting Store' is also a genre piece, but I was concerned because a horror genre like this hasn't been explored in such depth before. Nevertheless, I am confident because it is entertaining."

When asked about the differences between the original webtoon and the drama, Kang Full noted, "I created the webtoon 13 years ago, and there were stories that I couldn't fully express in the original. The drama allows us to explore those untold stories, and the actors bring them to life in a more dimensional way. Instead of broadening the narrative, it has deepened it. The emotions and spectacular elements that I couldn't convey through drawings have come to life in a way that resonates with me. It has become much richer than the original."

'Lighting Store' is set to premiere on Disney+ on December 4.
