JYP's New Boy Group KickFlip Set to Debut on January 20
JYP Entertainment's next-generation boy group, KickFlip, is officially debuting on January 20 with their first mini-album, 'Flip it, Kick it!' and the title track 'Mama Said (뭐가 되려고?)'. The announcement of their debut was made at the '2024 MAMA Awards' held in November 2024 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Throughout January, JYP has been promoting KickFlip with large-scale anamorphic 3D outdoor advertisements in the K-pop Square at COEX in Gangnam, Seoul, capturing the attention of K-pop fans worldwide even before their official debut.
KickFlip consists of seven members: leader 계훈 (Kyeo-hun), 아마루 (Amaru), 동화 (Dong-hwa), 주왕 (Ju-wang), 민제 (Min-je), 케이주 (KJ), and 동현 (Dong-hyun). Kyeo-hun, who joined JYP after ranking first in the 2016 public audition, has spent nearly a decade as a trainee, which has drawn early interest in the group. With a solid foundation in training, the members have honed their skills together for two years, continuing the legacy of JYP boy groups like 2PM, DAY6, Stray Kids, Xdinary Heroes, and NEXZ.
The name 'KickFlip' was first revealed at the '2024 MAMA Awards', generating significant buzz among fans. JYP kicked off their debut promotions on January 6, 2025, by releasing the full music video for the track '응 그래' (Uh, Yeah), showcasing the members' talents and the album's quality. The music video quickly gained traction, ranking 9th on YouTube's Worldwide Music Video Trending and 3rd in South Korea's trending videos, surpassing 10 million views within two days of its release.
In addition to the music video, JYP has released various teaser content, including photos, dance practice videos, introduction films, concept photos, tracklist posters, track spoilers, and music video teasers, further igniting global fan excitement. As of January 15, pre-orders for 'Flip it, Kick it!' exceeded 300,000 copies, and the group's official Instagram and TikTok accounts have surpassed 410,000 and 640,000 followers, respectively.
KickFlip's mini-album 'Flip it, Kick it!' expresses their determination to 'turn the world upside down and kick away challenges!' Members Kyeo-hun, Amaru, Dong-hwa, and Min-je have participated in writing lyrics for some of the tracks, showcasing their musical potential. Additionally, Young K from DAY6 has contributed to the third track, 'WARRIORS', providing strong support for the group.
With a name inspired by a complex skateboarding trick, KickFlip is ready to embark on a new journey, breaking free from conventions. As they prepare for their debut activities with 'Flip it, Kick it!', fans are eagerly anticipating what this 'K-pop super rookie' will bring to the music scene.
