JYP Girl Group Member Claims Abuse, Leaves Team and Files Lawsuit

Kage (케이지), a 17-year-old American member of JYP Entertainment's newly debuted global girl group VCHA (비춰), has announced her departure from the team, citing experiences of abuse from specific staff members. JYP has acknowledged the situation, stating that they will address the matter according to procedures due to differing opinions.
On August 8, Kage took to her social media to share, "After experiencing abuse and unfair treatment from certain staff members, I have decided to terminate my contract with JYP Entertainment and leave VCHA. I filed a lawsuit yesterday."
VCHA, which debuted in January 2023, was formed as part of a collaborative global project called 'A2K' by JYP and Universal Music Group's Republic Records.
Kage expressed her concerns, stating, "I do not support the working and living conditions that led one member to attempt extreme measures. I also do not support an environment that causes eating disorders and self-harm among members. I decided to leave the team in May and am currently waiting for my contract to be terminated."
She added, "I do not wish to blame anyone for what I experienced, but I believe this is a deeply rooted issue in the K-pop industry. I hope my decision to leave will lead to positive changes in the K-pop system that will protect idols and trainees."
In response to Kage's allegations, JYP stated, "We have not received the details directly and are currently verifying the situation. We have been communicating through representatives, and there have been differing views. We will proceed according to future procedures."
