Jung Woo-sung's Controversy Over Extramarital Child Sparks Political Commentary

Actor Jung Woo-sung (정우성), 51, has recently been at the center of controversy following the revelation that he has an extramarital child with model Moon Ga-bi (문가비), 35. In response to the media frenzy surrounding this issue, Lee So-young (이소영), a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, expressed her views on social media, emphasizing the importance of respecting diversity in society.

On November 26, Lee posted a message titled 'Reflections on the News of Actor Jung Woo-sung's Son' on her Facebook page. She noted, 'The controversy surrounding Jung Woo-sung's extramarital child has dominated the media for several days. While the private lives of celebrities are always of interest, I find it hard to understand why his decision to marry or not is subjected to criticism and judgment.'

Lee questioned the societal norms that allow couples who have children to divorce without stigma, yet criticize those who choose to live separately without marrying. She asked, 'If a couple has a child and then divorces after marrying, is that acceptable?'

She further expressed confusion over why family structures are often judged, stating, 'Just because a couple has a child together, does that mean they must marry and fulfill obligations as a couple? It feels suffocating to think that way.'

Lee argued for the freedom to live independently and the right to choose one's partner, asserting that these are fundamental rights. She reflected on her own family history, sharing that her parents divorced when she was very young, and she grew up without knowing her father. 'If my parents had stayed together despite not loving each other, would I have been happier? That's a question no one can answer for me,' she said.

She concluded by acknowledging that while there is nothing wrong with traditional family structures, and that a loving partnership can positively impact a child's emotional well-being, it is essential to recognize that everyone's life experiences are different. 'A society that respects these differences is a better society,' she added.

Moon Ga-bi gave birth to Jung Woo-sung's son in March. The couple reportedly became close after meeting at an event in 2022, and it is said that Moon informed Jung of her pregnancy in June of the previous year.

In a statement, Jung Woo-sung's agency, Artist Company, confirmed that the child is indeed Jung's biological son and stated, 'As a father, he will take full responsibility for the child,' while also clarifying that the two will not be getting married.
