Jung Joong-sik Opens Up About His Song 'I Am a Firefly' on SBS's 'Same Bed, Different Dreams 2'

On the May 12 episode of SBS's 'Same Bed, Different Dreams 2 - You Are My Destiny', Jung Joong-sik, the original creator of the hit song 'I Am a Firefly', shared his feelings regarding the song's success. Despite the song's resurgence in popularity, he expressed mixed emotions about the fact that the version sung by singer Hwang Ga-ram has gained more traction than his own. Jung stated, "At first, I was upset. At some point, my emotions crossed paths. It's my song, but it seems like Ga-ram has the influence that fits the song better."

He continued, "The numbers show that my version didn't chart. I even considered quitting music. However, since my song is becoming more recognized, that feeling isn't entirely negative. It made me think that I need to create music that is more true to myself."

During the episode, Jung Joong-sik and his fiancée, Jang Jae-na, visited a friend's house. Jung revealed, "This is my friend's house. His name is Jae-hwa, and he had hidden his younger sibling for about 20 years before finally introducing them." This revelation led to laughter when cast member Lee Mi-do quipped, "Your sister made a mistake."

Jang Jae-na added, "My sister won a housing lottery and is preparing to move. We wanted to pick up some things she no longer needs." The couple collected items like an air purifier, a humidifier, and tissues, but Jung was seen sitting idly on the sofa. Jang Jae-na's sister, Jang Jae-hwa, jokingly asked, "Does Jung-sik just sit around at home like that?" To which Jang Jae-na explained, "He’s a bit dazed because he took some medicine. I’m just sitting here too."

In a sisterly tone, Jang Jae-hwa advised, "You have a dog, so you need to clean up properly." Jung responded that he hires a cleaning service, prompting Jang Jae-hwa to remark, "You need to earn enough money to afford that."

Jung pouted at this comment, saying, "Ga-ram will earn more for me. The next songs will bring in more income." Jang Jae-hwa retorted, "Not cleaning won’t make you work harder. You’ll just lie around." Jung smiled at the teasing, and the sisters burst into laughter. He humorously declared, "I’m good at love. I’m a love expert!"
