Judges Reveal Criteria for Mister Trot 3

On December 19, TV Chosun held an online press conference for its new entertainment program, Mister Trot 3, via its official YouTube channel. The event featured key figures including Chief Producer Min Byung-joo, Producer Kim Joo-yeon, and judges Jang Yoon-jung, Boom, Lee Kyung-kyu, Kim Yeon-ja, Jin Sung, Jang Min-ho, Young-tak, Ahn Seong-hoon, and Park Ji-hyun.
Mister Trot 3 aims to crown the third 'Trot King' following the success of Lim Young-woong and Ahn Seong-hoon, continuing the trot phenomenon in South Korea.
During the press conference, Boom discussed the judging criteria, stating, "We look for star quality and how participants command the stage, as well as their mindset, singing ability, and character. We also consider how they handle the pressure of being in the top 7 and whether they remain humble. I was particularly moved by Jang Min-ho's focus on character."
Jang Yoon-jung added, "We divided into two teams for the Master Audition round, which was the only time we could see a full heart rating. As 'National Masters,' we felt it was time to show some fireworks. However, the senior masters had different standards, leading to some disagreements. It was interesting to see the differences in our perspectives."
Senior master Ahn Seong-hoon emphasized the importance of showcasing one's unique style and strengths in each round, highlighting that song selection is crucial. Park Ji-hyun noted that avoiding mistakes, having charm, and staying calm are key factors for success, while also hoping viewers can feel the excitement of the performances.
Lee Kyung-kyu mentioned that vocal tone is essential, stating, "The voice is life and character. We focus on how to identify unique characters in the contestants. Young-tak, for instance, has a distinct charm."
Kim Yeon-ja pointed out the need for contestants to be adaptable, especially with the potential for international opportunities, while Jin Sung stressed the importance of authenticity in performances. He acknowledged that while many contestants may have similar skills, some stand out due to their unique qualities.
Young-tak reiterated that minimizing mistakes during performances is crucial, and understanding music and trot is vital for success in Mister Trot.
Jang Min-ho concluded by stating that the judging criteria are challenging, as many talented contestants may not perform well under pressure. He emphasized that those who can manage their nerves and deliver strong performances will likely advance in the competition.
Mister Trot 3 is set to premiere on December 19 at 10 PM.
