Joo Woo-jae Discusses University Festival Performance on How Do You Play?

On the June 7 episode of MBC's How Do You Play? (놀면 뭐하니?), Joo Woo-jae opened up about the recent controversy surrounding his performance at a university festival. This episode marked the first recording with a four-member format following the departure of Park Jin-joo and Lee Mi-joo.

During the show, Yoo Jae-suk noticed Joo Woo-jae's tired appearance and asked, "Did you not sleep well?" To which Joo Woo-jae replied, "I only got five hours of sleep," looking puzzled. Yoo Jae-suk then inquired, "But why do you look so exhausted?"

Joo Woo-jae was taken aback by the comment, asking, "Is that rude?" Lee Yi-kyung chimed in, saying, "You don’t look well at all." Hahwa then mentioned Joo Woo-jae's recent performance at a university festival alongside the band 10cm.

Lee Yi-kyung asked, "Did you perform at the 'To You' event?" referring to Joo Woo-jae's cover of a 10cm song, to which Joo Woo-jae responded, "I didn’t go, what are you talking about?" Hahwa criticized him, saying, "Don’t mess up other people’s events," while Yoo Jae-suk asked, "What did you mess up?" Hahwa pointed out, "It was a passionate stage, and you ruined it."

Yoo Jae-suk scolded Joo Woo-jae, saying, "Why do you keep going to these events when it’s not even your song?" Joo Woo-jae defended himself, saying, "I only went because they asked me to sing; I wouldn’t go just because I wanted to."

Hahwa advised him, "You should know when to step back," while Yoo Jae-suk added, "You’ve reached that point. You should have just done Music Core (음악중심)." Hahwa then revealed, "You messed up the lyrics to 'Love is in the Milky Way Café,' didn’t you?" Joo Woo-jae admitted, "I messed up everything because I was too nervous."

He explained, "I was supposed to go on stage at 9 PM, but I was nervous from 9 AM for 12 hours. As soon as I got on stage, I suddenly forgot everything, messed up the lyrics, and it was a disaster."

Yoo Jae-suk responded, "That’s how it is. That’s what makes you an amateur. People like us never forget once we’re on stage." Joo Woo-jae reminded him of a past performance where Yoo Jae-suk had also struggled, saying, "Aren’t we both amateurs?" This caught Yoo Jae-suk off guard, leading to laughter as Joo Woo-jae quipped, "I don’t think anyone can beat that performance."

The playful banter continued, with Yoo Jae-suk exclaiming, "Is that really comparable?!" eliciting more laughter from the cast.
