Joo Won's 'Firefighter' Tops Box Office on Opening Day, Surpassing 'Moana 2'
The film <소방관> (Firefighter), which brings to life the poignant true story of firefighters, has made a remarkable debut by claiming the top spot at the box office on its opening day, surpassing Disney's <모아나 2> (Moana 2). To celebrate this achievement, a special group poster has been released.
The newly released poster features the firefighters from the Western Fire Station responding to the tragic Hongje-dong fire incident, alongside the heartfelt image of Do-soon (played by Jang Young-nam), the only family member of a firefighter, anxiously hoping for their safety. The poster is accompanied by the powerful motto "FIRST IN, LAST OUT," a phrase deeply ingrained in the hearts of firefighters, which piques curiosity about their unwavering commitment to saving lives.
Since its release, <소방관> has resonated strongly with audiences, generating significant word-of-mouth praise. Viewers have expressed their appreciation for the film's emotional depth, stating, "It was refreshing to watch without overwhelming sentimentality," and "This is a true story, not just melodrama."
In addition, <소방관> has launched the '119 Won Donation Challenge,' where for every ticket purchased, 119 won will be donated to improve the equipment and treatment of South Korean firefighters. This initiative allows moviegoers to contribute to a worthy cause simply by watching the film, with funds directed towards the National Fire Hospital set to open in 2025. The '119 Won Donation Challenge' aims to create a positive impact and foster a warmer world through the generosity of <소방관> viewers.
The film <소방관> depicts the harrowing experiences of firefighters during the 2001 Hongje-dong fire disaster, showcasing their determination to save lives despite challenging conditions, with Joo Won delivering a compelling performance as the lead character.
