Joo Won's Film 'Firefighter' Surpasses 1 Million Viewers in Just 8 Days

The film 'Firefighter' (소방관), starring Joo Won, has achieved a remarkable milestone by surpassing 1 million viewers just 8 days after its release. As of December 11, at 6:37 PM, the Integrated Ticketing System reported that the movie, directed by Kwak Kyung-taek and produced by By4M Studio and Eskroad Pictures, reached this impressive figure. This rapid success outpaces the 2024 hit film 'Escape' (탈주), which took 10 days to reach the same audience count.
In addition to its box office success, 'Firefighter' is also running the '119 Won Donation Challenge,' where 119 won from each ticket sold will be donated to the National Fire Hospital, set to open in 2025. With the achievement of 1 million viewers, the film has already met its initial fundraising goal of 119 million won.
Since its release, 'Firefighter' has maintained the top spot at the Korean box office for 8 consecutive days, showcasing its strong popularity amidst a competitive film landscape this winter. The film continues to gain momentum, showing an upward trend in audience numbers as it enters its second week, indicating a potential long-term success.
'Firefighter' depicts the harrowing experiences of firefighters during the tragic Hongje-dong fire incident in 2001, focusing on their determination to extinguish the flames and rescue victims under challenging conditions.
