Joo Doo-soon Undergoes Mental Evaluation Following Release from Prison

Joo Doo-soon, who was imprisoned for child sexual assault, is set to undergo a mental evaluation for approximately one month due to signs of mental instability. On June 4, the Ansan branch of the Suwon District Court held a hearing to issue a detention order for his evaluation. This detention is a mandatory measure to assess the mental or physical condition of a defendant.
Since his release in December 2020, Joo has been prohibited from leaving his residence during specific hours: from 7 to 9 AM and 3 to 6 PM when students are commuting, as well as from 9 PM to 6 AM the following day. However, he violated this order twice in April and May, leading to his detection for unauthorized outings. In December 2023, he was sentenced to three months in prison for breaching the nighttime curfew.
Due to the repeated violations of his restrictions, the Ansan Probation Office requested a mental evaluation from the court to assess Joo's condition. Following the court's decision, he will be evaluated at the National Forensic Hospital for about a month.
Joo Doo-soon was sentenced to 12 years in prison in December 2008 for kidnapping and sexually assaulting an elementary school student in front of a church in Ansan, and he was released on December 12, 2020.
