Jo Yu-ri Captivates Attention as Newcomer in Squid Game 2
Jo Yu-ri, who has been cast in the highly anticipated Netflix original series Squid Game 2, is drawing comparisons to Jung Ho-yeon, the breakout star of the first season. Released today (December 26), the new season has generated significant buzz, particularly regarding its new characters. Jo Yu-ri, known primarily as a member of the popular idol group IZ*ONE, surprised fans with her transition from music to acting.
Following the announcement of her role, public interest in Jo Yu-ri skyrocketed. Fans are eager to see how she performs in her character, Jun-hee, who enters the deadly game due to misleading investment information.
Jo Yu-ri revealed that she successfully navigated a challenging audition process to land her role in Squid Game 2. In a recent interview on the YouTube channel 'Idol Gyeok', she shared, "I received an audition offer through my agency. After completing the first round, I waited about two months before getting the acceptance call. I went through several more rounds of auditions, and I received the news while recording the OST, which brought me to tears. It was as sweet as I had hoped."
During the press conference on December 9, Jo Yu-ri described her character, stating, "Jun-hee accumulates massive debt due to incorrect investment information and ends up participating in the game. She encounters her ex-boyfriend, Myung-ki, at the game venue." Myung-ki, played by Im Si-wan, is a coin investment YouTuber who becomes embroiled in a scam, leading to significant losses for himself and his subscribers, ultimately forcing him into the game.
As Squid Game 2 premieres, many are curious if Jo Yu-ri can replicate Jung Ho-yeon's success. Jung became a global star through her role in the first season, showcasing her talent alongside seasoned actors like Lee Jung-jae and Park Hae-soo. Her compelling performance, which included intense psychological battles and physical confrontations, garnered her critical acclaim and attention from Hollywood, leading to her involvement in Alfonso Cuarón's Apple TV+ series Disclaimer.
With the spotlight now on Jo Yu-ri, fans are eager to see if she can also rise to international fame through her role in Squid Game 2.
