JK Kim Dong-wook Advocates Against Forced Grief Amid National Mourning

On January 1, 2025, singer JK Kim Dong-wook expressed his belief that forcing sadness upon others is not right. He stated, "No matter the reason, it is absolutely wrong to impose sorrow. Just because someone doesn't post a photo on social media doesn't mean they aren't grieving, and not writing a tribute doesn't equate to a lack of remembrance."
He continued, "With the new year upon us, we should celebrate and mourn with our loved ones, living through laughter and tears together. Let's make this year one where we can discern right from wrong and contribute positively to the world! I am writing songs with this mindset, starting with myself... I believe that by being better individuals, we can create a better world!" He humorously questioned if his sentiments might be seen as 'too much.'
This statement comes in the wake of the tragic Jeju Air plane accident that occurred at Muan International Airport on December 29, which has left many in mourning. The national mourning period is set to continue until January 4, during which many celebrities have been paying their respects. However, JK Kim Dong-wook's stance highlights that such expressions of grief should not be mandated.
In related news, JK Kim Dong-wook released his single "Mon amour (몽 아모르)" in November of last year.
