Ji Chang-wook Joins 'Star of Controversial Remarks' with Humble Attitude

On December 19, 2024, Ji Chang-wook graced the cover of Singles magazine, showcasing his striking presence in a leather jacket. The photoshoot highlighted his intense gaze and confident poses, embodying the essence of a noir master. Recently, he has made a significant impact with his roles in intense noir dramas like 'The Worst Evil' (최악의 악) and 'Gangnam B-Side' (강남 비-사이드). When asked about the challenges of taking on contrasting roles, he candidly shared, "Action scenes are physically demanding, but they bring their own thrill and sense of achievement. However, whether it's action or emotionally intense work, I find it all equally tough and painful."

He humorously added, "It's not that I feel like I'm going to die from the difficulty or that I don't want to do it; I think it's just my style as an actor to embrace self-inflicted pain and struggle through my work. If I ever find myself working without worry or difficulty, that would actually make me anxious. I would feel like I'm not truly engaging with my craft."

Regarding his prolific work ethic, Ji stated, "There's no special reason. I just don't want to miss out on roles or projects I want to do, which has led me to work continuously since about two years ago. Lately, I've found joy in challenging myself with things I haven't done much before. It's a process of broadening my spectrum as an actor."

Currently busy filming the Disney+ original series 'City of Pieces' (조각 도시), Ji revealed, "This series is a continuation of the film 'Fabricated City' (조작된 도시), and I'm working alongside actors Yang Dong-geun, Lee Kwang-soo, Do Kyung-soo, and Jo Yoon-soo. I anticipate great synergy with my co-stars. The writer of 'Taxi Driver' (모범택시), Oh Sang-ho, is also involved in this project, and while the overarching concept is similar to the film, the characters will develop differently, making it interesting to compare the two."

As he continues to expand his acting repertoire across various genres, Ji expressed his desire to explore new roles, saying, "Surprisingly, there are still many roles I haven't tried. I've never played a doctor. I also want to take on a project that is purely action from start to finish, like a racing or car chase theme."

When asked about his sensual charm, he explained, "I think sexiness matures and transforms into sensuality over time. It’s a layered charm that comes from a person's attitude, thoughts, and experiences. However, I don't see myself as sensual. I tend to be quite harsh in my self-assessment and have never thought of myself that way. Sometimes, I even think, 'Am I kind of cute?'"
