Baek Jong-won (59), the CEO of the restaurant franchise The Born Korea, has been referred to the prosecution for violating the Origin Marking Act. This marks the first instance of legal action against the company amid various allegations. On June 4, the Special Judicial Police of the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service submitted a recommendation for prosecution to the Seoul Western District Prosecutor's Office, which specializes in food and drug safety cases. 

The Born Korea is accused of advertising its main ingredients as domestically sourced while actually using products from China or other imports. For instance, their flagship product, ‘Baek Jong-won's Baekseok Doenjang,’ was marketed as being made using traditional Korean methods, but it was found to contain Chinese-modified meju and imported soybeans and flour. 

Additionally, the ‘Hanshin Pocha Nakji Bokkeum’ was promoted as using domestic garlic, yet it included Chinese garlic in its actual ingredients. The ‘Deopjuk’ product also claimed to use ‘domestic kelp, shrimp, and anchovies,’ but it was confirmed to contain shrimp sourced from Vietnam. 

Earlier in March, the Special Judicial Police issued a corrective order for the deletion and modification of labels on three products, including soy sauce and doenjang. In response, Baek announced at a regular shareholders' meeting that the company would strengthen its origin management system, collaborate with external experts to enhance transparency, and establish an effective internal monitoring system. 

Baek and The Born Korea are also under investigation for other allegations. The police are looking into 14 cases, including violations of the Food Labeling and Advertising Act for falsely advertising the origin of certain products like ‘Chewy Sweet Potato Bread’ and for manufacturing and supplying chicken bone frying equipment without approval, violating food hygiene laws.

He also shared his experiences in the entertainment industry, saying, "I was unaware that there are both fraudulent and reputable agencies. When I told my agency head I wanted to leave, he said, 'You have no father; do you think you can survive in this industry? They'll spread rumors about you.' My heart raced at that moment. It was the first and last time I sought advice from various places. Since then, I have been training at a better agency."

On June 23, actor Kim Soo-hyun (37) announced through his legal representatives, LK Law Firm, that he has filed an additional defamation lawsuit against Kim Se-yeon (49), the operator of the Garoseoro Research Institute, and the family of the late actress Kim Sae-ron. The statement emphasized their commitment to ensuring that those responsible face legal consequences. 

This legal action follows a press conference held by Kim Se-yeon on May 7, where he allegedly used AI-generated deep voice technology to present fabricated audio recordings. During the conference, he claimed that Kim Soo-hyun had been in a relationship with Kim Sae-ron since middle school and accused Kim Soo-hyun's team of attempting to bribe a whistleblower with 4 billion KRW to suppress evidence, even suggesting that they hired hitmen to eliminate the whistleblower when he refused. 

The law firm stated, 'The actions of Kim Se-yeon and the family of Kim Sae-ron go beyond merely spreading false information; they have also accused Kim Soo-hyun of defamation and violations of child welfare laws, which constitutes a clear act of defamation.' They further asserted that fabricating evidence is a serious crime, and using such evidence to file criminal charges is an even graver offense. 

Since March, Kim Soo-hyun and the family of Kim Sae-ron have been embroiled in a dispute regarding the timeline of their alleged relationship. The family claims that Kim Sae-ron was in a romantic relationship with Kim Soo-hyun starting in 2016 when she was just 15 years old, while Kim Soo-hyun's side contends that their relationship only began after she turned 18, specifically from the summer of 2019 to the fall of 2020. Kim Soo-hyun has publicly denied these allegations in a press conference. 

The legal battles continue, with Kim Sae-ron's family having previously filed charges against Kim Soo-hyun for violations of child welfare laws and defamation. In response, Kim Soo-hyun's team has also filed additional lawsuits against Kim Se-yeon for defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act and against Kim Sae-ron's family for the same reasons. They are also pursuing 12 billion KRW in damages.

Fans of Jin from BTS (방탄소년단) will have the opportunity to experience his upcoming fan concert tour in theaters around the globe. The live viewing of ‘#RUNSEOKJIN_EP.TOUR in JAPAN’ will take place on July 12 at the Kyocera Dome in Osaka. This service allows audiences to watch concerts and sports events live from specific locations.

The live viewing will be available in 43 CGV theaters across South Korea, as well as in cinemas in 10 countries and regions, including Malaysia, Singapore, and India. Ticket sales for the South Korean screenings will begin on June 26 at 6 PM.

The tour will kick off with a performance in Goyang, which can also be enjoyed live. The ‘#RUNSEOKJIN_EP.TOUR in GOYANG’ will be held on June 28-29 at the Goyang Sports Complex, where fans can watch the concert in real-time on a large screen set up at the Jamsil Indoor Stadium. The official BTS light stick, ARMY Bomb, will sync with the Goyang venue, enhancing the immersive experience. Additionally, the Goyang concert will be live-streamed on the global superfan platform Weverse over the two days.

The ‘#RUNSEOKJIN_EP.TOUR’ will feature a total of 18 performances across nine cities, including Goyang, Chiba, and Osaka in Japan, as well as Anaheim, Dallas, Tampa, Newark in the United States, London in the UK, and Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

On June 23, Park Chan-dae (3rd term, Incheon Yeonsu Gap), a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, declared his candidacy for the party leadership at a press conference held at the party's headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul. He stated, "I will focus all of the Democratic Party's capabilities on the success of the Lee Jae-myung administration and strengthen the relationship between the party, government, and the presidential office to a one-team level." Park is expected to face off against Jeong Cheong-rae (4th term, Seoul Mapo-eul) for the position of the first ruling party leader under the Lee Jae-myung government.

As a prominent member of the pro-Lee faction, Park emphasized the need for close and organic cooperation across all areas, from blocking political offensives to legislation and policy implementation, promising to achieve tangible results. He also expressed his commitment to supporting a special investigation to completely end the internal strife and to prevent collusion disguised as unity, stating, "We must urgently isolate the Yoon Seok-yeol and Kim Geon-hee couple from our community."

Regarding relations with opposition parties, Park said, "We will respect them but will not engage in transactions. We will keep the door open for reflection and change from parties that have made mistakes, but we will respond firmly if they repeat old habits." He pledged to achieve legislative results in the three major reforms of the prosecution, judiciary, and media by the end of this year and to secure a decisive victory in the local elections next year. During his announcement, Park wore the same type of sneakers that President Lee Jae-myung wore during the presidential campaign, emotionally declaring, "Now I will stand by Lee Jae-myung's side."

Jeong Cheong-rae, who announced his candidacy on June 15, expressed on Facebook that he hopes for a beautiful competition in the party that leads to victory for the people and party members.

The next Democratic Party leader will be decided at the party convention on August 2. The election will utilize a voting system comprising 55% from party members, 30% from public opinion polls, and 15% from delegate votes. The new leader will serve until next August, coinciding with the remaining term of President Lee Jae-myung, and will hold the power to nominate candidates for the local elections next year.
