Jeong Eun-kyung Reports Wealth of Over 5.6 Billion Won Ahead of Ministerial Confirmation

Jeong Eun-kyung, the nominee for Minister of Health and Welfare, has declared a total wealth of approximately 5.6 billion won. According to the confirmation request submitted to the National Assembly on July 6, Jeong reported assets amounting to 5,617,779,000 won. This includes a jointly owned apartment in Yongsan, Seoul, valued at 1.262 billion won, personal savings of 1.356 billion won, and private bonds worth 64 million won.

Her spouse has also reported ownership of agricultural land in Bongpyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, with two plots measuring 817 pyeong (2,701㎡) valued at 73.2 million won and 843 pyeong (2,786㎡) valued at 96.67 million won. Additionally, the spouse holds savings of 1.362 billion won and stocks worth 521.17 million won. The stock portfolio includes 5,000 shares of Changhae Ethanol, a company producing raw materials for hand sanitizers, along with shares in Samsung Electronics (400 shares), LG Uplus (4,790 shares), LG Display (500 shares), Shinhan Financial Group (5,700 shares), and 1,013,333 shares in the unlisted company OpenPop.com. Other reported assets include private bonds worth 200 million won and a 2007 Sonata valued at 1.97 million won.

Jeong has faced scrutiny over potential conflicts of interest, particularly regarding her spouse's purchase of Changhae Ethanol stocks during the COVID-19 pandemic, which were considered 'pandemic beneficiaries.' On June 30, she stated, "There are many inaccuracies in the reports regarding my spouse's stocks, and I will clarify the facts during the confirmation hearing." Concerns have also been raised about the legality of her spouse's agricultural land ownership, as current agricultural laws restrict ownership unless the individual actively farms the land. Jeong's spouse is a physician working in Incheon.

Jeong's eldest son has reported ownership of a 2024 Santa Fe hybrid vehicle valued at 43.44 million won, along with savings of 32.744 million won and stocks worth 6.251 million won. Her younger son has reported savings of 18.443 million won and stocks valued at 6.249 million won. Both sons have completed their military service as Army privates.
