Jeong Eun-kyung Reports Wealth of 5.6 Billion Won as Ministerial Candidate
Jeong Eun-kyung, the nominee for the Minister of Health and Welfare, has declared a total wealth of 5.6179 billion won. According to the personnel hearing request submitted to the National Assembly on July 5, Jeong reported an apartment in Yongsan, Seoul, co-owned with her spouse valued at 1.262 billion won, personal savings of 1.35654 billion won, and private bonds worth 64 million won.
Her spouse, a physician, reported ownership of two agricultural lands in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province, measuring 817 pyeong (2,701㎡) valued at 73.2 million won and 843 pyeong (2,786㎡) valued at 96.67 million won. Additionally, the spouse declared savings amounting to 1.36194 billion won and stocks worth 521.17 million won, including 5,000 shares in Changhae Ethanol, a company producing raw materials for hand sanitizers.
Other stocks held by Jeong include 400 shares of Samsung Electronics, 4,790 shares of LG Uplus, 500 shares of LG Display, 5,700 shares of Shinhan Financial Group, and 1,013,333 shares in the unlisted company OpenPop.com. She also reported private bonds worth 200 million won and a 2007 Sonata valued at 1.97 million won.
Jeong, who previously served as the head of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, has faced scrutiny over potential conflicts of interest due to her spouse's purchase of stocks related to hand sanitizers during the COVID-19 pandemic. On June 30, she stated, "There are many inaccuracies in the reports regarding my spouse's stocks, and I will clarify the facts during the hearing."
Additionally, Jeong's eldest son reported ownership of a 2024 Santa Fe Hybrid vehicle valued at 43.44 million won, savings of 32.744 million won, and stocks worth 6.251 million won. Her younger son reported savings of 18.443 million won and stocks valued at 6.249 million won.
