Kim is accused of receiving polling results for free from Myung and subsequently exerting influence to secure a nomination for former People Power Party member Kim Young-sun in the Changwon I-chang district during the by-elections. Furthermore, she is also suspected of attempting to nominate former prosecutor Kim Sang-min in the same district during last year's general elections. Meanwhile, former President Yoon Suk-yeol is expected to appear at the Seoul Central District Court on May 12 for his third trial regarding charges of insurrection. The court had previously allowed Yoon's request to enter the courtroom through an underground parking lot for safety reasons, but it has now decided against this for the upcoming trial. The service will run from May 16 to May 30, allowing passengers to select their stops via the 'Gwangju Tour Bus' app, utilizing a demand-responsive transport (DRT) model.

The bus route will start from the main gate of Chonnam National University, where the protests began in May 1980, and will include stops at Hyo-dong Elementary School, Gwangju Station, Gwangju High School, Jeonnam Girls' High School, the National Asia Culture Center, the former Gwangju Red Cross Hospital, Yangrim Intersection, and Yangrim Art Museum.

Operating hours will be daily from 10 AM to 10 PM, with fares set at 1,700 KRW for adults, 1,350 KRW for teenagers, and 850 KRW for children. Transfers to city buses and subways will be available. A one-day pass priced at 3,000 KRW will also be offered, although it does not allow for transfers.

To commemorate this significant anniversary, Gwangju City has planned a series of 145 events, including free rice ball distributions, a bread-sharing sale involving 49 bakeries, and the World Human Rights City Forum. On May 17 and 18, all city buses and urban rail services will be free of charge, supported by a recently amended ordinance that provides a legal basis for this initiative.

A memorial service for the 5·18 Democracy Movement will take place on May 17 at 10:30 AM at the National 5·18 Democracy Cemetery, attended by Gwangju Mayor Kang Ki-jeong, 5·18 activists, their families, and citizens. The camp, home to 40,000 refugees displaced by the Syrian civil war, was filled with excitement as children shouted, "Uncle Jo! Gray Jo! Master Jo!" upon his arrival amidst a sandstorm on May 1.

President Cho, along with officials from international sports organizations, greeted the children, shaking hands and offering encouragement. For many of these children, Cho is seen as a 'guardian angel of hope,' as the only time they can leave the confines of the camp is during the annual 'Taekwondo Day' sports event held from May 1 to 3, when the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) allows special outings.

The Azraq camp was established in 2014 following a massive influx of refugees due to the Syrian civil war that began in 2011. WT opened a taekwondo academy there in 2016, inspired by a poignant photograph of three-year-old Aylan Kurdi, who drowned while fleeing to safety in 2015. Cho stated, "Seeing that image shocked me, and I pondered how to alleviate the suffering of the hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees."

To facilitate charitable efforts through taekwondo, Cho established the Taekwondo Human Foundation (THF). He recalled a significant event on the UN's International Day of Peace (September 21), where the WT demonstration team performed for the UN, connecting with peacekeeping forces in Lebanon via video link, which garnered a positive response.

Cho noted that the Azraq camp was plagued by violence and illegal activities, but through taekwondo, education and order were maintained, helping to connect the youth to the outside world. Currently, 350 individuals aged 4 to 22 train at the academy, which has become a beacon of hope within the camp. Since 2022, WT has organized taekwondo competitions there, expanding the event into the 'Hope and Dreams Sports Festival' by persuading leaders of major sports organizations within the IOC. This year's fourth edition featured six sports, including taekwondo, 3x3 basketball, Baseball5, badminton, handball, and weightlifting demonstrations.

The event saw participation from around 1,300 individuals, including athletes, officials, and international referees, primarily from the Azraq and Zaatari camps, which houses 80,000 Syrian refugees. Cho emphasized that the door opened by taekwondo for these refugee youth is not a barrier to the world but a gateway to hope, transforming anxiety into optimism.

Kim Geon-hee is accused of being involved as a 'money provider' in a scheme orchestrated by former Deutsche Motors chairman Kwon Oh-soo, who allegedly manipulated stock prices from 2009 to 2012 using various accomplices. The allegations were brought to light in April 2020 when former Democratic Party lawmaker Choi Kang-wook and others reported her as a co-conspirator in the case while Yoon was serving as the Prosecutor General.

Initially, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office concluded in October 2021, after 4 years and 6 months of investigation, that there was insufficient evidence to charge Kim with conspiracy or aiding in the stock manipulation. They acknowledged that her accounts were involved but determined that there was no clear evidence of her participation or knowledge of the manipulation.

However, Choi, the complainant, contested the decision, leading to the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office reviewing the case since November of last year. The reinvestigation is now being handled directly by the Criminal Division of the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office, which has deemed it necessary to conduct further inquiries into related parties, especially after a Supreme Court ruling regarding Kwon and other accomplices was finalized last month.

During this reinvestigation, prosecutors are focusing on determining the extent of Kim's awareness and involvement in the stock manipulation activities. There are also discussions about potentially summoning Kim for questioning.

서울 고등검찰청이 최근 윤석열 전 대통령의 아내 김건희와 관련된 도이치모터스 주식 조작 사건에 대한 혐의를 재조사하기 위해 검사 2명을 파견했다. 법률 전문가들은 이번 인사가 수사 과정의 가속화를 나타내는 것이라고 제안하고 있다.

5월 12일, 서울 고등검찰청이 4월 25일에 제출된 김건희 사건에 대한 항소에 따라 자본시장법 위반 혐의에 대한 수사를 재개하기로 결정했다고 보도되었다. 최행관(제33회 사법연수원) 등 3명의 검사가 이번 재조사에 배정되었다.

김건희는 2009년부터 2012년까지 여러 공범을 이용해 주가를 조작한 도이치모터스 전 회장 권오수의 계획에 '자금 제공자'로 연루된 혐의를 받고 있다. 이 혐의는 2020년 4월, 당시 검찰총장이었던 윤이 재직 중일 때 민주당 전 의원 최강욱 등이 그녀를 공모자로 신고하면서 드러났다.

서울중앙지검은 2021년 10월, 4년 6개월의 수사 끝에 김건희를 공모 또는 주식 조작에 가담한 혐의로 기소할 증거가 부족하다고 결론지었다. 그들은 그녀의 계좌가 연루되었음을 인정했지만, 조작에 대한 그녀의 참여나 인식에 대한 명확한 증거는 없다고 판단했다.

그러나 고소인 최는 이 결정을 이의 제기하여 서울 고등검찰청이 지난해 11월부터 사건을 재검토하게 되었다. 이번 재조사는 서울 고등검찰청 형사부에서 직접 처리하고 있으며, 지난달 권과 다른 공범들에 대한 대법원 판결이 확정된 이후 관련자들에 대한 추가 조사가 필요하다고 판단하고 있다.

이번 재조사에서는 검찰이 김건희의 주식 조작 활동에 대한 인식과 연루 정도를 파악하는 데 집중하고 있다. 또한 김을 소환해 질문할 가능성에 대한 논의도 진행되고 있다.
