Jeon Ji-hyun and Kang Dong-won Star in New Drama 'Polaris', John Cho Makes His Korean Original Debut

Disney+ has unveiled the casting lineup for its highly anticipated original series 'Polaris', featuring the star-studded pairing of Jeon Ji-hyun (전지현) and Kang Dong-won (강동원). The announcement, made on November 28, 2024, also includes notable actors such as Kim Hae-sook (김해숙), Lee Mi-sook (이미숙), Yoo Jae-myung (유재명), Park Hae-joon (박해준), Oh Jung-se (오정세), Lee Sang-hee (이상희), Joo Jong-hyuk (주종혁), Won Ji-an (원지안), and Hollywood star John Cho (존 조).
'Polaris' tells the gripping story of Moon Joo (played by Jeon Ji-hyun), a diplomat and former UN ambassador, who teams up with the enigmatic special agent San Ho (played by Kang Dong-won) to uncover the truth behind a massive conspiracy. Disney+ has confirmed that the series will premiere in 2025, marking the first collaboration between Jeon Ji-hyun and Kang Dong-won, alongside a perfect blend of South Korean and Hollywood talent.
In the series, Jeon Ji-hyun portrays the trustworthy diplomat Moon Joo, while Kang Dong-won takes on the role of the mysterious San Ho, a top mercenary with an unknown past. Fans are eager to see the chemistry and synergy between these two beloved actors.
Adding to the excitement, John Cho, known for his roles in 'Searching' and the 'Star Trek' series, joins the cast as a Deputy Secretary of State, showcasing his acting prowess in this significant role, which marks his first appearance in a Korean original series. The diverse and talented ensemble cast promises to deliver an exceptional viewing experience.
Veteran actress Kim Hae-sook will portray the President of South Korea, Chae Kyung-shin, while Lee Mi-sook will play Moon Joo's mother-in-law, Lim Ok-sun, further heightening anticipation for the series. Yoo Jae-myung, known for his commanding presence, will take on the role of the National Intelligence Service Director, and Park Hae-joon, recognized for his captivating performances in 'Spring in Seoul' and 'The World of the Married', will play Moon Joo's husband, Jun Ik.
Jun Ik's brother, Jun Sang, will be portrayed by Oh Jung-se, who is celebrated for his versatile acting skills. Lee Sang-hee, praised for her strong performances in Netflix's 'Rogawan' and the drama 'Morning Comes to Psychiatric Ward', will play Moon Joo's long-time aide, Ye Mi-ji. Joo Jong-hyuk, who has been steadily building his filmography with roles in 'Extraordinary Attorney Woo' and 'One in a Million', will portray Jun Ik's aide, Park Chang-hee. Newcomer Won Ji-an, who gained attention for her role in Disney+'s 'Made in Korea', will play the mysterious character Kang Han-na, who knows Jun Ik's secret.
With a talented production team led by writer Jeong Seo-kyung and director Kim Hee-won, along with the addition of director Heo Myung-hyang, 'Polaris' is set to be a well-crafted series that showcases the brilliance of its ensemble cast. The series is slated for release on Disney+ in 2025.
