Jeon Hyun-moo Shines as the New 'Kimchi King' on MBC's 'Point of Omniscient Interference'

On January 4, 2025, MBC's variety show 'Point of Omniscient Interference' (전지적 참견 시점) featured a lively kimjang (kimchi-making) party hosted by Lee Young-ja. Due to the large number of participants, the event was split into two teams, with Jeon Hyun-moo, Yang Se-hyung, Hong Hyun-hee, and Yoo Byung-jae representing one of the teams. During the episode, Song Seong-il was celebrated for his promotion from team leader to department head.
Lee Young-ja kicked off the festivities with a unique twist on tteokbokki, adding spicy sauce to chicken galbi, along with dumplings and fried seaweed rolls. The outdoor setting, despite the chilly weather, made the street food even more appetizing. As she offered fish cake skewers, Song Eun-yi's eyes lit up, recognizing the quality of the fish cakes.
Lee explained, "These fish cakes are made from fish ground in a mill. I prepared this because Hyun-hee is coming, and I know it’s tough for Jun-beom to manage everything." The fish cake soup, made with green onions and dried pollack heads, was further enhanced with crabs and shrimp, making it a mouthwatering dish. Lee didn't stop there; she also added perilla leaves and chili powder for extra flavor.
Next, the team sampled dongchimi (radish water kimchi). Jeon Hyun-moo eagerly volunteered to fetch the dongchimi, which had been fermented in mineral water from Gangwon-do. The moment he opened the lid, the distinct aroma had him salivating. Seizing a moment when no one was watching, he took large bites of the radish and devoured the tender napa cabbage.
Lee was astonished, exclaiming, "Oh my, what are you doing?" Jeon continued to astonish everyone by using a pot to scoop the dongchimi broth, prompting Lee to question whether he had cleaned the pot beforehand. Jeon insisted he had, but Yang Se-hyung chimed in, "There’s not a drop of water in that pot, don’t lie!"
Throughout the episode, Jeon Hyun-moo embodied the quintessential 'kimchi fanatic,' reminiscent of his previous obsession with Lee Young-ja's pa-kimchi. Song Seong-ho explained that he had sourced rare ingredients days in advance and had prepared the broth for the kimchi filling the day before. The recipe, which included a liter of crab fish sauce, was perfectly seasoned.
Jeon exclaimed, "This is so delicious! Don’t add anything else. No need for glutinous rice paste!" His delight was evident as he wrapped the kimchi filling in golden napa cabbage. Hong Hyun-hee remarked, "Once Jeon Hyun-moo gets fixated on something, he just eats that!" Jeon humorously admitted, "That day, I was like a cabbage worm!" Yang Se-hyung couldn't help but laugh, asking, "Are you a goat or something?"
