Jeju to Host the 2025 International AI Film Festival

The 2025 Jeju International AI Film Festival will take place from June 8 to 10 at the Jeju Arts Center and BeIN; performance venue. Announced on June 4, the festival received 1,210 submissions from 95 countries, with 18 films selected after three rounds of judging. The top award went to 'Evolution' by French director Eliott HOURLIER, which tells the story of a mother gorilla's journey to protect her young in a cybernetic animal kingdom devastated by human expansion.
The film 'Let's Sunureum,' which explores Jeju's traditional communal spirit, won the Best Fiction award, while 'COZI,' created by local Jeju filmmakers and centered on the story of a haenyeo (female diver), received an Honorable Mention in the Non-Fiction category.
The opening ceremony on June 8, hosted by AI announcer 'Jaina,' will feature screenings of the award-winning films, including 'Wind, Dream' (from the Korea National University of Arts A&T Lab) and 'I’m PoPo,' which depicts the humanism of the AI robot PoPo.
On June 9, the festival will host an awards ceremony, an AI & ART forum, corporate lectures, and screenings of invited and award-winning films, fostering a dialogue between technology and art. The first part of the AI & ART forum will focus on 'Technology; Art. The Art of Coexistence,' moderated by Jeju policy advisor Lee Jun-ho, featuring discussions with Jeju Governor Oh Young-hoon, KAIST Professor Kim Dae-sik, and others. The second part will share the results of the 'Jeju Culture Global AI Art Class' conducted in 11 countries, including Brazil, Mongolia, and Colombia, along with special lectures on Adobe's generative AI tools and Google Cloud's AI solutions.
On the final day, June 10, a special screening of the AI film 'Forgotten Jeju Horse, Hero Reckless,' produced by KBS Jeju's AI Production Research Group, will take place.
During the festival, attendees can experience various AI technologies at the BeIN; venue, including Adobe's Firefly experience booth, AI robots equipped with the latest Gemini from Google Cloud, catering robots from KT Jeju, and AI soccer and Go robots from the SW Future Fulfillment Jeju Center.
