Jeju and Netflix Sign Agreement to Boost Cultural Tourism and Content Production

On May 16, 2025, Jeju Province and Netflix, the online video streaming service, signed a memorandum of understanding at Hyangsadang in Jeju City to enhance cultural tourism and content production in the region. Under this agreement, Jeju will support the production of Netflix originals that showcase the island's unique culture and natural environment, similar to the Netflix drama series '폭싹 속았수다' (Bokssak Sogassda). Additionally, Jeju and Netflix will collaborate on programs related to the island to invigorate the local content industry.

Jeju plans to establish a one-stop collaboration system with local public institutions to facilitate Netflix's drama production. Jeju Governor Oh Young-hoon remarked, "The success of '폭싹 속았수다' has confirmed that a solid foundation of history and culture can lead to greater content creation. This agreement signifies a meaningful global partnership between Jeju and Netflix."

Kim Min-young, Netflix's Asia-Pacific content head, stated, "Great stories can be created anywhere and loved worldwide, which has been Netflix's long-standing belief. '폭싹 속았수다' is a prime example of how authentic narratives reflecting Jeju's life and emotions can resonate deeply across language and cultural barriers."
