Jay Park Expresses Honor in Hosting 'Universe League'

On November 19, 2024, Jay Park (박재범) shared his thoughts on taking on the role of MC for the new SBS variety show 'Universe League' during a press conference held at the SBS building in Mokdong, Yangcheon, Seoul. He stated, "I don’t feel a strong sense of responsibility, but I am honored to be chosen as the MC."

'Universe League' is the boy group version of the massive girl group audition program 'Universe Ticket.' Continuing from the previous season, PD Lee Hwan-jin (이환진) is at the helm, aiming to discover the next global boy group.

What sets this program apart is its league format, as indicated by its title. Unlike traditional audition shows where trainees compete individually, 'Universe League' features team competitions, which has already garnered attention. Three teams will participate, but only one will achieve their dream of debuting and performing on a global stage.

As the MC, Jay Park will serve as a bridge between the contestants and the audience, guiding the show's narrative. He humorously remarked, "Since I’m not doing this under my own name, I don’t feel a huge responsibility. I’m just playing a small role to ensure I don’t cause any trouble and to help shine a light on the director and participants. I only prepared by visiting the salon this morning."

When he mentioned feeling chosen for this role, PD Lee Hwan-jin chimed in, saying, "I really pushed for this. Thinking about the anxious moments I had makes it feel like a dream," which brought laughter to the room.

Jay Park expressed gratitude, saying, "I believe my branding through my music led to this opportunity as an MC. I feel honored and thankful for the continued support."

PD Lee added, "I wanted a competitive atmosphere among the three teams, and I thought Jay Park’s free-spirited hosting style would be essential for the battle segments."

The dream match for aspiring boys aiming for debut, 'Universe League,' is set to premiere on November 22 at 11:20 PM.
