Jang Nara Makes History by Winning Both Music and Acting Awards
Singer and actress Jang Nara has made history by winning both a music award and an acting award, a feat that highlights her remarkable versatility in the entertainment industry. Jang debuted in 2001 with her first album, '눈물에 얼굴을 묻는다' (Burying My Face in Tears), and quickly gained recognition through her role in the MBC sitcom 'New Nonstop'. She has since released numerous hit songs, including 'Sweet Dream', 'April Story', 'Amado Sarangigessjyo', and 'I Am a Woman Too', solidifying her popularity with awards from KBS and MBC in 2002.
In the same year, Jang rose to stardom as an actress with her role in the SBS drama 'My Lovely Sam Soon'. By 2006, she had become a Hallyu star after appearing in the Chinese drama 'Princess of the World'. Over the years, she has built a solid filmography with notable dramas such as 'Confession Couple' (2017), 'The Lady in Dignity' (2018-2019), 'VIP' (2019), and 'Family' (2023).
Her recent success peaked in 2024 with the SBS drama 'Good Partner', which achieved the highest viewership rating of 18.7% for the year. Jang's portrayal of divorce lawyer Cha Eun-kyung earned her the prestigious acting award, marking her first major acting accolade in her 23-year career. In her acceptance speech, she expressed gratitude, stating, "I feel like I've experienced amazing things in my life through SBS. I was able to touch the trophy thanks to the wonderful partners I met on 'Good Partner'."
Jang also shared a personal connection to SBS, having met her husband, a younger actor and director, during a script reading for 'VIP'. They married in 2022, and she humorously noted, "I got married at SBS," showcasing her fondness for the network.
Despite her success, Jang faced challenges while portraying Cha Eun-kyung. She candidly admitted that while she found the character engaging, there were moments when she felt her performance wasn't improving, leading her to consider leaving the drama. However, her husband provided support during these tough times, which she appreciated.
Looking ahead, Jang Nara expressed her commitment to continue working hard and remaining a curious actress, leaving her fans excited for her future endeavors. As the first Korean entertainer to win both music and acting awards, the anticipation for Jang Nara's next steps is palpable.
