Ive's Jang Wonyoung Wins Legal Battle Against Cyberbully

The legal repercussions for the operator of a cyberbullying site targeting Jang Wonyoung of the group Ive continue to unfold. On June 4, 2025, the Seoul Central District Court ruled in favor of Starship Entertainment, Jang Wonyoung's agency, ordering the defendant, referred to as A, to pay 50 million KRW in damages along with interest. A was found guilty of maliciously spreading false rumors about Jang Wonyoung, including dating rumors and bullying allegations, which severely damaged her reputation. In response, Starship and Jang Wonyoung obtained a court order in the U.S. to gather information from Google, successfully identifying A and filing a lawsuit for 100 million KRW in damages. This case marks a significant moment in the entertainment industry as it addresses the issue of cyberbullying by exposing anonymous perpetrators. In October 2023, the court partially ruled in favor of Jang Wonyoung, and although A appealed, the appellate court upheld the decision to pay 50 million KRW. On June 4, Jang Wonyoung's team successfully retrieved the 50 million KRW in damages and interest from the 100 million KRW that A had deposited.
