IU Reveals She Will Not Inherit Family Wealth on Salon Drip 2

On March 11, 2025, singer and actress IU (아이유) made a surprising confession during her guest appearance on the web entertainment show Salon Drip 2 (살롱드립2), which aired on YouTube. While chatting with comedian and host Jang Do-yeon (장도연), IU shared updates about her life and discussed her new Netflix series, 'The Best of Me' (폭싹 속았수다).
Despite being known for her introverted nature, IU humorously described herself as a social butterfly in the entertainment industry, revealing that she manages about four group chats, with a special emphasis on her family chat.
"My family is quite large, around 12 members. Due to family circumstances, I grew up with my cousins, who I consider like sisters even though we don’t share the same last name. Both of my older sisters are married and have one child each, along with my parents, grandmother, myself, and my younger sibling," she explained.
IU also mentioned the roles family members play in their interactions, joking, "When my younger sibling says something, I always have to chime in. That’s just how we operate. It’s like a daily drama for us."
In a light-hearted moment, she revealed that she often tells her younger brother, "You really need to be filial. When our parents pass away, will they leave their inheritance to me? You’re going to inherit everything anyway!"
When Jang Do-yeon asked if she truly wouldn’t receive any inheritance, IU candidly replied, "It seems like they don’t plan to leave me anything financially." She recounted a conversation with her parents about inheritance, where her father stated, "We will divide it equally among the four of you." IU humorously responded, "I’m fine with that; I’ll just opt out and let you divide it into thirds."
In addition to her family discussions, IU has made significant real estate investments, including purchasing a luxury apartment in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam, for 13 billion KRW in 2022, a studio in Gwacheon for 4.6 billion KRW, and a standalone house in Yangpyeong for approximately 3 billion KRW for vacation purposes.
