IU Reveals She Drank Real Alcohol During Filming of 'Bokssak Sogassuda'

Singer and actress IU has disclosed that she actually consumed alcohol while filming a drinking scene in the Netflix series 'Bokssak Sogassuda'. In a video released on March 16 on Netflix's YouTube channel, titled 'Easoon is Crying Again: Reaction to Highlights from Act 2 of <Bokssak Sogassuda>', IU, along with co-stars Moon So-ri and Park Hae-joon, shared behind-the-scenes stories while watching the highlights from the second act.

In a particular scene where IU's character, Geum-myeong, sits across from her father, played by Park Hae-joon, at a Chinese restaurant, she mentioned, "I actually had a drink. I was worried that the red color might look too cute if it was just makeup." This moment captures Geum-myeong expressing her pent-up feelings to her father, stirring emotions in viewers with the poignant exchange between a daughter’s sorrow and a father’s tender denial. To enhance the scene's authenticity, IU opted to drink real alcohol.

Park Hae-joon humorously asked, "Did I drink too?" to which IU replied, "I don’t think you did, but you probably drank after we finished filming." Park Hae-joon laughed, adding, "That makes sense."

He also shared a humorous anecdote about the challenges of coordinating the scene where he had to eat squid while slurping noodles, saying, "I was debating whether to eat or not while trying to manage the situation."

The Netflix series 'Bokssak Sogassuda' tells the story of a rebellious girl named Easoon, born in Jeju, and her father, a bumbling but loving figure, as they navigate life’s adventures through the four seasons. The narrative goes beyond their youthful escapades to reflect the universal experiences of life’s seasons that resonate with everyone.
