ITZY Announces Charismatic Comeback with 'Girls Will Be Girls'

On June 9, 2025, at the Sofitel Ambassador Seoul in Songpa-gu, ITZY held a press conference to celebrate the release of their new mini-album, 'Girls Will Be Girls.' This marks the group's return after an eight-month hiatus since their last mini-album, 'Gold,' released in October 2024.
The album 'Girls Will Be Girls' centers around the theme of 'solidarity,' showcasing the strong friendship among the five members of ITZY.
Yeji shared, "As we celebrate our sixth anniversary, we pondered how we could present a new image and message. Since our debut, we've conveyed the message of 'Love Myself,' and this time, we hope to resonate with the theme of 'us.' I believe we can showcase the solid teamwork we've built over the years. I think our fans will appreciate the strong sense of solidarity."
She continued, "I’m coming back right after my solo album. Through my solo activities, I realized how precious our group is. Over time, the significance of each member has become even stronger. We can lean on and rely on each other. They are my team and my support."
Yuna added, "The members are the ones I rely on the most during tough times. They are the driving force that propels us forward together."
Ryujin reflected, "As we enter our seventh year and see many juniors debuting, I often feel the need to mature. However, being with the members brings me back to a childlike innocence, providing a comfortable refuge. Watching senior artists with great teamwork inspires us to maintain our original intentions and strive to be long-lasting artists."
Lia mentioned, "We also have an image of resistance. We aimed for a makeup style that feels outdoor and conveys a strong, combat-ready vibe. Rather than breaking specific stereotypes, we want to convey the message that 'we are strongest together,' similar to our ongoing call to 'love ourselves.'"
The title track 'Girls Will Be Girls' is a dynamic dance song characterized by impressive vocal harmonies. The lyrics express the idea that being together makes 'us' stronger, with the members singing about their commitment to support each other.
Yeji noted, "Just as our early concept naturally reflected our image, I believe we have seamlessly integrated ourselves into every concept. Looking back at past videos, we seemed so young, and I think we will feel the same about our current selves in the future. We want to show both our cool and refreshing sides naturally as we move forward."
Yuna humorously added, "While practicing choreography, I accidentally hit Lia's elbow with my rib. Since this album is about ribs, please pay a lot of attention to it!"
Notably, the trailer for their new album features a surprise appearance by JYP Entertainment's founder, Park Jin-young, which has garnered significant attention.
Ryujin expressed gratitude, saying, "Director Yoo Kwang-hyung provided the idea, and when we asked the PD, he readily agreed to appear. He created a great atmosphere on set, and we are thankful for his feedback on our song and choreography. He encouraged us to showcase our unique energy, which we focused on during preparation."
The album includes a total of five tracks, such as 'Kiss and Tell,' 'Locked and Loaded,' 'Promise,' and 'Work.'
This year marks ITZY's seventh anniversary. Many idol groups sign a seven-year contract with their agencies upon debut, and it is common for them to disperse to different agencies once the contract ends, making the seventh year a critical juncture for idols, often referred to as the 'seven-year curse.'
Chaeryeong remarked, "It’s hard to believe we are already discussing re-contracting in our seventh year. We are actively negotiating with the company and hope to share good news soon."
ITZY will release 'Girls Will Be Girls' at 6 PM today, following a countdown live event with fans at 5 PM.
Lia concluded, "While I can’t provide exact figures, I hope many people recognize the effort we’ve put into this project. This song contains a charisma that ITZY has not shown before. I want to earn the title of 'Charismatic ITZY.'"
Yeji also expressed her excitement about participating in the 'Girl Group Summer Queen Battle,' stating, "As someone who loves K-pop, I’m enjoying it. I look forward to the activities of our seniors and juniors, and we want to show our best selves as well."
