Investigation Uncovers Allegations of Favoritism Involving Prosecutor Linked to Kim Geon-hee

The special investigation team led by Min Jung-ki, probing allegations surrounding Kim Geon-hee, the spouse of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, has uncovered evidence suggesting that Jeon Seong-bae, known as 'Geonjin Beopsa', received a request for favoritism concerning a current prosecutor. This raises concerns about potential influence reaching the prosecution. Jeon's alleged involvement in personnel and election interference is among the 16 issues outlined in the special investigation law.

On July 13, legal sources reported that the special investigation team secured records indicating that Jeon received a text message from broker A during the early days of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, requesting favoritism for prosecutor B. The message reportedly contained personal details about prosecutor B, including their name, date of birth, and position. Broker A added a note saying, "I am requesting this favor."

The text was discovered during a forensic examination of Jeon's mobile phone by the Seoul Southern District Prosecutor's Office, which had previously investigated Jeon's allegations. Since the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the special investigation law, the Southern District Prosecutor's Office has transferred all related forensic records and investigation materials to the Kim Geon-hee special investigation team.

However, it remains unclear whether prosecutor B directly solicited broker A or if Jeon relayed the request to others. Prosecutor B, who is currently in office, denied the allegations, stating, "I do not know who Jeon is, and I have not made any requests for favoritism through any brokers. This is completely false."
