Investigation into Coup Charges: Education Minister and Former Security Chief Summoned

On July 4, the special investigation team led by Jo Eun-seok, which is probing coup and foreign exchange charges against former President Yoon Suk-yeol and others, is set to question Education Minister Lee Ju-ho and former Chief of the Presidential Security Service Park Jong-jun. The investigation will focus on the circumstances surrounding the declaration of martial law. Minister Lee was absent from the Cabinet meeting held just before the martial law was declared, as he did not receive a notice to attend. However, he did participate in the Cabinet meeting the following day, which was convened to lift the martial law. Previously, on July 2, the special investigation team had already summoned and interrogated Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Ahn Duk-geun and Minister of Science and ICT Lee Sang-im, both of whom also missed the meeting prior to the martial law declaration but attended the subsequent meeting to revoke it. Former Chief Park is facing allegations of obstructing the execution of arrest warrants by mobilizing Presidential Security Service personnel. He is also accused of instructing his staff to delete phone records of former Counterintelligence Chief Lee In-hyung and former National Intelligence Service Deputy Chief Hong Jang-won, allegedly at the direction of former President Yoon.
