Singer Im Young Woong has finally spoken out about the recent DM controversy, three weeks after it first emerged. Although his apology was indirect, public reaction remains largely negative.

At that time, citizens were in turmoil due to a state of emergency, calling for the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol while Im Young Woong posted a celebratory message for his dog, Siwol's birthday, which drew criticism from some netizens.

One user sent him a DM saying, "What are you doing in this situation? I don't expect you to speak out, but this is really insensitive," to which Im Young Woong replied, "What? Am I a politician? Why should I speak out?" This exchange sparked controversy, and while initial claims of it being fabricated arose, the authenticity was confirmed through the poster's verification and the silence from both Im Young Woong and his agency.

The public's disappointment in Im Young Woong was palpable. While there is no obligation for celebrities to express political views, it is clear that they should be cautious with their words and actions, especially regarding sensitive issues. Many felt that his response only exacerbated the situation. Furthermore, as other idols and actors began to express support for impeachment, Im Young Woong found himself being compared unfavorably.

After maintaining silence throughout the controversy, Im Young Woong finally apologized to his fans during the concert, stating, "This has been a time of learning for me.
