Im Mi-sun Elected as New President of the Korean Traditional Music Society

On February 16, 2025, the Korean Traditional Music Society (한국국악학회) announced the election of Im Mi-sun (임미선), a professor at Dankook University, as its 12th president. Her term began on February 14, 2025, and will last for two years. In addition to her new role, Im Mi-sun also serves as a judge for the prestigious Bang Il-young Korean Music Award (방일영국악상), which recognizes excellence in traditional Korean music.
Founded in 1948 by prominent figures in the field such as Dr. Lee Hae-goo (만당 이혜구) and Dr. Jang Sa-hoon (운초 장사훈), the Korean Traditional Music Society aims to promote research and advancement in Korean music. The society has over 400 members dedicated to the study of Korean music, having conducted more than 500 research presentations and published over 70 volumes of research on Korean music. The organization is also actively engaged in international exchanges with ethnomusicology societies across Asia, enhancing comparative studies in traditional music.
