Im Ji-yoo Reveals Shocking Broadcast Incident on '20th Century Hit Song'

Im Ji-yoo is set to share a memorable broadcasting mishap during the upcoming episode of '20th Century Hit Song' (이십세기 힛-트쏭) airing tonight at 8:30 PM. The 244th episode will revisit iconic songs that, despite their popularity, fell short of winning the coveted Golden Cup on the legendary music ranking show, Gayo Top Ten (가요톱텐).

Gayo Top Ten was known for its credibility, utilizing ARS and PC communication to create systematic and fair rankings. The Golden Cup system required a song to maintain the number one spot for five consecutive weeks; if it lost the top position, it had to start over. This episode will highlight songs that, while they fought valiantly, ended up in second place, under the theme 'Lost but Fought Well! Hit Songs That Missed the Golden Cup.'

Among the songs discussed will be 'For You Alone' (너 하나만을 위해) by Koo Bon-seung (구본승), which was the title track of his debut album. Written and composed by Lee Hyun-do (이현도), this track features a stylish arrangement typical of the duo Deuce, blending upbeat and funky New Jack Swing rhythms. Koo Bon-seung gained fame through the drama 'General Hospital' (종합병원), where he played a lovable doctor, quickly rising to stardom before debuting as a singer. When the show's host mentioned that the song stayed in the top ten for 16 weeks, Im Ji-yoo humorously remarked, '16 weeks is almost a year,' prompting Kim Hee-chul (김희철) to jokingly suggest she apologize to her parents.

When asked about any memorable broadcast incidents, Im Ji-yoo recounted, 'During the recording, XX happened... it got a bit delayed because of me. But I still managed to broadcast smoothly.'

The song that won the Golden Cup during this period was 'While You Were Away' (너 없는 동안) by Kim Won-joon (김원준), who wrote and composed the title track for his third album. This song, which created a sensation with its house rhythm and fashion, secured the Golden Cup, leaving Koo Bon-seung in second place for three consecutive weeks due to Kim Won-joon's rising popularity. Although Koo Bon-seung exited honorably after Kim Won-joon's win, he faced unexpected competition that caused him to miss the top spot again, recording six weeks in second place.

Additionally, viewers will learn about a song that sold over 500,000 copies within two weeks but failed to win the Golden Cup, and a singer who was delayed in appearing on Gayo Top Ten due to a flamboyant hairstyle. Tune in tonight at 8:30 PM on KBS Joy to find out more about these fascinating stories.
