Im Hyung-joo Pays Tribute to Victims of Jeju Air Tragedy on New Year's Day

Popera singer Im Hyung-joo chose to honor the victims of the Jeju Air tragedy as his first activity of the new year. On January 2, he shared on his personal social media, "My first schedule for 2025, the Year of Eulsa, was to pay my respects at the joint memorial for the 'Jeju Air tragedy' in Seoul." The posted photos captured the scene at the memorial located in the main hall of Seoul City Hall. After paying his respects alongside other citizens, Im wrote in the guestbook, "I pray for the eternal peace of the victims. May they find comfort in the afterlife." He also noted, "Despite the late hour, many citizens continued to visit with warm hearts," expressing his deep appreciation for the support shown to the bereaved families. He added, "I was deeply moved by the empathy and comfort shared for the families of the victims. Once again, I wish for the eternal rest of those who lost their lives." According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, on December 29 at 9:03 AM, a Jeju Air flight from Thailand attempted an emergency landing at Muan International Airport but collided with the concrete runway edge due to its landing gear not being deployed. The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of 179 individuals, including crew and passengers, with only 2 survivors out of 181 onboard. In response, the government has declared a national mourning period until midnight on January 4.
