ILLIT Dominates at the 39th Japan Gold Disc Awards

The K-pop girl group ILLIT (윤아, 민주, 모카, 원희, 이로하) has made history by winning the most awards among female K-pop artists at the prestigious 39th Japan Gold Disc Awards, announced on March 12. Their debut track 'Magnetic' earned them three awards: 'Song of the Year by Download (Asia)', 'Song of the Year by Streaming (Asia)', and 'Best 5 Song by Streaming'.
Established in 1987, the Japan Gold Disc Awards recognize artists and works that have contributed to the development of the music industry in Japan. Winners are determined based on sales figures, streaming, and download statistics from the past year.
ILLIT's 'Magnetic' achieved 'Double Platinum' certification from the Japan Record Association as of January, marking a record for the fastest accumulation of 200 million streams for a single song by a female group. This remarkable success has solidified ILLIT's status as a leading fifth-generation girl group, as they took home the most trophies at the awards.
The members expressed their gratitude, stating, "Thanks to our ever-supportive fans, GLLIT, we were able to achieve this meaningful result. We are truly grateful for all the love."
Including the Japan Gold Disc Awards, ILLIT has now won a total of four trophies at major local music award ceremonies. They previously received the 'Rookie of the Year' award at the Japan Record Awards, marking the first time in 13 years that a K-pop girl group has won this honor, and the first for an artist without a formal album release in Japan.
Last year, ILLIT dominated various annual charts in Japan, achieving the highest rankings among K-pop artists and even surpassing many international artists on Billboard Japan. They also made significant impacts on annual summaries for YouTube and TikTok in Japan.
Recently, ILLIT released their first original Japanese track, 'Almond Chocolate', which serves as the theme song for the movie 'I Don't Just Like Your Face'. The song quickly climbed to the top of the Oricon Daily Digital Single Ranking and reached number one on both the AWA Music real-time rising chart and the Spotify Japan Daily Rising chart. It is quite rare for a rookie K-pop girl group to be selected as the theme song performer for a local film and achieve such success simultaneously.
