Hyun Bin Reflects on Portraying Ahn Jung-geun in 'Harbin'

Hyun Bin recently shared his thoughts on playing the role of Ahn Jung-geun in the film 'Harbin'. During the special episode 'Don't Forget' of tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block' aired on December 18, he expressed the immense pressure and significance he felt in portraying such a historical figure.
He stated, "The symbolism and presence of General Ahn Jung-geun are incredibly profound. Taking on this role brought a sense of weight and responsibility as an actor." Hyun Bin mentioned that he researched existing records and studied the memorials dedicated to Ahn to better understand and embody the character.
The filming took place in Mongolia under extreme conditions, with temperatures dropping to minus 40 degrees Celsius. He noted, "We shot in Mongolia and Latvia, specifically at a frozen lake called Hubsugul. Rather than being a hindrance, the environment and weather actually aided my performance."
Hyun Bin revealed that he acted in the middle of the lake, sharing, "It was both frightening and daunting. Walking on a seemingly endless path made me reflect on what Ahn must have felt at around the age of thirty. I wondered if I could have had such thoughts at that age."
He pondered, "What could have made him value independence more than his own life?" and expressed his hope that the sincerity and gratitude towards such figures would resonate through his performance.
As he anticipates the film's release, he admitted to feeling nervous and concerned, wanting to convey their heartfelt appreciation to the audience. He mentioned using the best available camera, which was also used in the Hollywood film 'Dune', and that the London Symphony Orchestra provided the music. He hopes viewers will not just watch but experience the film in theaters.
