Hwasa Opens Up About Controversy and Personal Struggles on Crazy Rich Koreans

On July 13, during an episode of KBS 2TV's Crazy Rich Koreans, Hwasa shared her emotional journey regarding the 'obscenity controversy' that had been troubling her. The episode showcased her life while on a tour in the U.S., where she candidly discussed her feelings about the backlash she faced.

Prior to the tour, Hwasa encountered a serious issue with a toe fracture that nearly halted her performances. She revealed, "Two months before the U.S. tour, I dropped a dumbbell on my toe," explaining how frightened she was during that time. "I cried because I was so scared. I’m not afraid of ghosts, but life is the scariest thing. I was terrified that I might not be able to perform again."

Fortunately, Hwasa made a remarkable recovery, stating, "They told me I healed faster than anyone else since the hospital opened. It’s amazing how the human body works. I was determined to heal within a month. It’s incredible how achieving that goal can lead to unbelievable outcomes. It felt like my bones were going crazy."

During the episode, she also reflected on the incident from May, when she was reported to the Korean Parents' Association for causing discomfort with her performance at a university festival. This led to a police investigation, which ultimately concluded with no charges against her.

Expressing her distress, Hwasa recounted receiving a text from her mother at the peak of the criticism, asking, "Is our daughter okay?" She shared how heart-wrenching it was to receive such a message from her mother, who had never asked her that before.

She humorously noted, "When I was a child dancing alone on the playground, my parents didn’t understand me. If my mom couldn’t understand me back then, how could others? But she eventually told me, 'I’m proud of you, my daughter.'"

Hwasa credited her supportive staff for helping her endure the tough times, saying, "I secretly cried a lot behind the scenes because I was so grateful."

She even mentioned experiencing panic attacks, recalling a moment at the airport in Turkey when her sisters instinctively hugged her, which led to her breaking down in tears. "I might not remember this, but I felt their desire to protect me."

"I’m human, so I have moments of instability. I don’t know why, but sometimes I feel like I can’t breathe. However, when someone hugs me during those times, it calms my anxiety. My sisters knew that and rushed to hug me at the airport," she added.

In a surprising revelation, Hwasa admitted that she struggles to remember the past ten years due to her hectic lifestyle, stating, "I can’t recall much. I think it’s because I’ve been so busy. I just don’t remember."
