Hwasa Breaks Down Over Controversy on Crazy Rich Koreans

On the July 13 episode of KBS 2TV's Crazy Rich Koreans (크레이지 리치 코리안), Hwasa (화사) opened up about her emotional struggles related to the recent 'obscenity controversy' she faced. During her ongoing tour in the U.S., she shared her thoughts on the backlash she received after a performance at a university festival in May, which led to a police investigation that ultimately concluded with no charges against her.

Before the tour, Hwasa faced a serious setback when she fractured her toe, nearly forcing her to cancel her performances. She revealed, "Two months before the U.S. tour, I dropped a dumbbell on my toe," and expressed her fear during the injury, saying, "I cried because I was so scared. I’m not afraid of ghosts, but life is the scariest thing. I was terrified that I might not be able to perform again."

Fortunately, Hwasa made a remarkable recovery, stating, "They told me I healed faster than anyone else since the hospital opened. It’s amazing how the human body works. I was determined to heal within a month, and it felt surreal to achieve that goal."

Reflecting on the controversy, she recalled receiving a heartfelt message from her mother at the peak of the criticism, asking, "Is our daughter okay?" This moment deeply affected her, as she shared, "It felt like my heart was being torn apart."

Hwasa also reminisced about her childhood, where her parents struggled to understand her passion for dance, but her mother eventually expressed pride in her. She credited her supportive staff for helping her through tough times, admitting, "I secretly cried a lot out of gratitude."

She described a moment of panic at an airport in Turkey, where her fellow members comforted her simultaneously, leading to an emotional release. "I might not remember this moment, but I felt their instinctive desire to protect me," she said.

Lastly, Hwasa revealed that she has trouble recalling the past ten years due to her hectic lifestyle, stating, "I can’t remember much. I think it’s because I’ve been so busy."
