Hwanhee Dominates Hyosung in Intense Showdown on 'Current King of Masked Singer 2'

On December 17, 2024, the fourth episode of MBN's entertainment program 'Current King of Masked Singer 2' featured an exciting one-on-one death match called 'On-Site Selection Battle.' This segment showcased the surviving contestants from the previous week's self-evaluation round.
Hwanhee, a seasoned R&B artist with 26 years of experience, chose to perform 'I Hate You, But Once Again.' He expressed his desire to break away from the habits of his usual genre, stating, "I didn't want my usual genre's habits to seep in. I kept recording and filtering it out. I've never struggled this much in my career as a singer."
His opponent, Hyosung, who has been active for 10 years, performed the traditional trot song 'Chaesokgang.' Master judge Park Hyun-bin praised Hyosung's performance, saying, "If you ask who did trot well, it's Hyosung."
Lyn, another judge, shared her emotional response, saying, "I couldn't watch Hwanhee's performance well because I kept tearing up. I remember forgetting the lyrics during a one-on-one match before. I know how heavy that stage is, so it was impressive to see him perform so well."
However, Yoon Myung-sun offered some critique, suggesting that Hwanhee needed to regain focus, noting, "It seems to be getting a bit risky. Adult contemporary music is often listened to by those who have lived a lot, so there are aspects that can't be resolved with vocal technique. The R&B tone was too prominent in the bridge section."
In the end, Hwanhee emerged victorious with a staggering 421 votes to 79. He received unanimous praise from the judges, leaving Hyosung in shock.
Meanwhile, the results of the first week of public support voting revealed Kim Soo-chan in first place, followed by Enoch, Choi Soo-ho, Jae-ha, Jin Hae-sung, Lee Hyun-seung, Song Min-jun, Hwang Min-ho, Shin Seung-tae, and Kim Joon-su rounding out the top ten.
