Hwang Jung-eum's Defamation Case Resolved as Accuser Withdraws Complaint
A woman who was mistakenly identified as the mistress of actress Hwang Jung-eum's husband has withdrawn her defamation lawsuit against the star. According to Hwang's agency, Y1 Entertainment, the woman, referred to as A, has decided to drop the charges, stating that they have resolved the misunderstanding amicably, although the timing of the withdrawal remains unclear.
Hwang Jung-eum, who married former professional golfer Lee Yong-don in 2016, is currently going through her second divorce from him after eight years of marriage. In April of last year, while in the midst of divorce proceedings, Hwang publicly accused A of being the other woman on Instagram, posting a message that read, "Hey, ugly. Please marry Yong-don. Just get a divorce and can you go to Bangkok?"
However, it was later revealed that A had no prior acquaintance with Hwang's husband. Following this revelation, Hwang issued an apology, stating, "I mistakenly identified an unrelated person as my husband's mistress and used terms that could be seen as offensive. I sincerely apologize for the harm caused."
In June of last year, A filed a defamation lawsuit against Hwang, but the case has now been closed following A's decision to withdraw her complaint.
