Hwang Jung-eum Shares Life as a Single Mother on 'Solo Because'

In a recent episode of SBS Plus and E Channel's reality show 'Solo Because' (솔로라서), Hwang Jung-eum opened up about her life after divorce, revealing her daily routine with her two sons. The episode aired on March 4, where she introduced herself as the mother of Wang-sik and Gang-sik, expressing her joy in finally sharing her story.

Hwang Jung-eum, who married former professional golfer Lee Yong-don in 2016 and has two children with him, faced a tumultuous relationship that included a brief separation and a subsequent reunion. However, she filed for divorce again in February of last year.

When asked about her current situation, Hwang stated, "There have been so many things happening, but I am managing to spend precious time with my sons every day while resolving each issue one by one." She reflected on the challenges she faced, including a high-profile divorce and a rigorous tax investigation that followed. Her agency, Y1 Entertainment, clarified that Hwang had complied with a tax audit in 2023 and had settled any discrepancies that arose from differing interpretations with tax authorities. They emphasized that there were no issues related to tax evasion or misconduct.

Hwang also showcased her new two-story house in Itaewon, Seoul, which she purchased for approximately 4.6 billion KRW. However, she revealed that the second floor was empty, as it had previously been an office. She explained, "I didn’t have a place to live because my ex-husband handled our marital home, and I never expected to get divorced. It all happened so suddenly."

Currently, she is living in the house while it undergoes renovations. Hwang's mother has been helping her with childcare, and she expressed gratitude for her support, stating, "My mom takes care of the kids and manages the household while I work to support us financially."

As she prepared her sons for school, Hwang looked at them with affection, calling them her "treasures" and reflecting on the joy they bring her. She remarked, "The best thing I’ve done in my life is giving birth to my two sons. Life has its ups and downs, but the tough times have made me stronger, and I can smile again. Being single is enough for me; I don’t need to strive for more."

Later in the episode, Hwang spoke with director Kim Byung-woo, known for the 'High Kick' series, expressing her desire to work with him again. They shared a light-hearted conversation about their careers, and Hwang mentioned her former co-star Choi Daniel, hinting at a potential reunion.

'Solo Because' (솔로라서) airs every Tuesday at 8:40 PM, showcasing the honest lives of captivating singles who navigate the joys and challenges of being alone yet happy.
