Hwang Jung-eum Finalizes Divorce and Legal Issues

Actress Hwang Jung-eum has officially concluded her divorce proceedings with her ex-husband Lee Yong-don, marking the end of their ten-year marriage through a court mediation decision. Additionally, she has fully repaid the 4.3 billion won embezzlement allegations, allowing her to resolve both her divorce and legal troubles as she prepares for a new chapter in her life.

Her agency, Y1 Entertainment, announced on May 26, 2025, that Hwang Jung-eum's divorce case was amicably settled following the family court's mediation decision, thus formalizing the divorce.

Earlier in the divorce process, reports surfaced about the seizure of Hwang's high-value properties, including a building in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam, and a house in Itaewon. In response, her agency clarified that these actions were merely precautionary measures for the division of marital assets and that the seizures would be lifted following the confirmation of the divorce mediation.

Having officially wrapped up her divorce, Hwang Jung-eum also addressed another significant legal issue concerning the embezzlement allegations amounting to 4.3 billion won. She was accused of misusing funds from her family corporation, Hunminjeongeum Entertainment, for cryptocurrency investments. Recently, she reportedly liquidated personal assets and repaid the full amount on May 30 and June 5.

Her agency stated, "Hwang Jung-eum has taken responsibility for her legal and moral obligations by settling her financial relationship with Hunminjeongeum Entertainment. She reflects on her previous lack of knowledge in tax and accounting matters and vows to approach her future endeavors with greater caution."

Hwang Jung-eum is known to own significant assets, including a house in Itaewon valued at approximately 4.65 billion won and a building in Gangnam worth around 6.2 billion won. This full repayment has lent credibility to ongoing speculations regarding her wealth, estimated to be in the hundreds of millions.
