K-pop group NewJeans has reorganized its legal representation as it faces a dispute with their agency, Ador. On May 9, NewJeans submitted an additional designation of attorneys in response to Ador's lawsuit seeking confirmation of the validity of their exclusive contract. They have appointed Park Hyung-nam, a prominent lawyer from the law firm Woosung, who previously served as the head of the Judicial Policy Research Institute and a senior judge at the Seoul High Court.

This brings the total number of lawyers representing NewJeans to 14, including those from the law firm Sejong and attorneys who previously represented Min Hee-jin, the former head of Ador.

In contrast, Ador has retained Kim & Chang as their legal representatives and has assembled a team of 13 lawyers, including former Constitutional Court Justice Kang Il-won and attorney Cheon Ji-sung, the daughter of a former Minister of Justice.

While the number of lawyers does not directly influence the outcome of the trial, the significant legal fees and high-profile attorneys indicate that neither party is willing to back down in this legal battle.

NewJeans announced their independent activities last November, claiming that their contract with Ador was terminated due to breaches by the agency. The Seoul High Prosecutors' Office sought a new search warrant from the court to avoid any controversy regarding illegally obtained evidence. The initial search warrant presented by the Southern District Prosecutors' Office only included details related to allegations of soliciting legal favors, and did not cover the Deutsche Motors investigation. If the phone were to be transferred from the Southern District Prosecutors' Office without proper documentation regarding the Deutsche Motors case, it could be deemed illegally obtained evidence, potentially rendering it inadmissible in court. 

Previously, a dedicated investigation team from the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office had also secured Kim's phone using a similar method while probing allegations of political broker Myung Tae-kyun's involvement in candidate nominations. 

Kim Geon-hee is accused of being a financial backer, or 'jeonju' (전주), in a scheme orchestrated by former Deutsche Motors chairman Kwon Oh-soo, which allegedly involved organized stock manipulation from 2009 to 2012. In April 2020, while Yoon was serving as the Prosecutor General, former Democratic Party lawmaker Choi Kang-wook and others reported Kim as an accomplice in this case. After 4 years and 6 months, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office decided not to prosecute, citing insufficient evidence, a decision that Choi and others have since appealed. 

After six months, the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office accepted the appeal and decided to reopen the investigation, reportedly assigning two prosecutors to review the case files. The prosecution is focusing on determining the extent of Kim's awareness and involvement in the stock manipulation activities during the re-investigation.

Actress Kim Tae-ri is set to reveal a new side of herself in Netflix's first Korean animated series, 'This Star Needs' (이 별에 필요한), directed by Han Ji-won and produced by Climax Studio. The show will premiere on May 30, 2025. 

Set in Seoul in 2050, 'This Star Needs' tells the romantic story of astronaut Nan-young, who dreams of exploring Mars, and Jay, a musician who has temporarily set aside his aspirations. The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has initiated a forced investigation into a former branch manager of Hana Securities, who is suspected of leaking information regarding a financial warrant issued for tracking bank accounts related to a criminal investigation. On May 21, the Financial Crimes Investigation Unit of the police conducted a search and seizure operation at Hana Securities' A branch, targeting the individual accused of sharing sensitive investigation details, including the issuance of the financial warrant, in violation of the Capital Markets Act.

The investigation began as police sought to secure transaction records from the accounts of former executive B of Intellian Technologies, a satellite communication antenna manufacturer. Hana Securities had provided the relevant financial transaction information to the authorities. It is believed that the former branch manager informed B about the issuance of the warrant. B and others are suspected of profiting significantly from stock purchases after learning about a contract between Intellian Technologies and a major U.S. tech company in 2021.

Additionally, the current branch manager of A branch is also under investigation for allegedly leaking information to B. Last month, police executed search warrants at Hana Securities' headquarters, the A branch, and the residence of the current branch manager, suspecting that B may have destroyed evidence after receiving prior information about the investigation.

A representative from Hana Securities stated, "We will take appropriate measures regarding the former and current branch managers once the investigation results are available."

하나증권의 한 관계자는 "수사 결과가 나오는 대로 전·현 지점장에 대해 적절한 조치를 취할 것"이라고 밝혔다.
