Honey J Faces Controversy Over Inappropriate Comments Just After Acclaim for Performance

Dancer Honey J, who received high praise for her performance described as 'national heritage-level choreography' on the first episode of Mnet's World of Dance (월드 오브 스우파), found herself embroiled in controversy just a day later due to inappropriate comments. After a day filled with both accolades and backlash, Honey J expressed her remorse and took responsibility for her actions.

On June 21, Honey J took to her social media to thank fans for their enthusiastic response to the mega crew mission stage 'Bumjeop,' which surpassed 10 million views in just three days. She expressed her gratitude, stating, "I am truly thankful that many people recognized the meaning I wanted to convey. I look forward to your interpretations in the future."

The performance, which blended traditional and modern elements with emotionally charged group choreography, garnered the label of 'national heritage-level performance,' receiving enthusiastic support from fellow dancers like Jay Park (박재범), Lee Jung (리정), and Hyojin Choi (효진초이). It was indeed a moment filled with praise for an 'unmatched' stage.

However, the positive atmosphere quickly shifted when Honey J became the center of controversy. In a reaction video posted on the YouTube channel 'Today with Choi Hyojin' (오늘도 최효진), she made a comment after watching a performance by the Japanese crew Danika, saying, "Is that even dancing? That's ridiculous," which led to accusations of sexual harassment from some viewers.

As the controversy spread on June 22, Honey J issued an official apology via her social media. She stated, "I deeply apologize to those who were hurt by my careless words in the video uploaded last night, and to all the supporters who were disappointed and uncomfortable because of me."

She continued, "While watching the first broadcast of World of Dance with my members, I became so immersed in the situation that I reacted strongly, and my thoughtless words caused discomfort to viewers. I am reflecting deeply on this."

Honey J also revealed that she personally apologized to the dancer from the opposing crew involved in the incident. She said, "As soon as I realized the situation, I conveyed my apologies directly to the dancer. I sincerely apologize again to those who generously understood, even though they could have felt offended. I acknowledge my lack of awareness regarding the weight of my words."

In her closing remarks, Honey J reflected on the incident, stating, "I have realized how much impact a single word can have. Moving forward, I will not take any words lightly and will strive to avoid repeating my mistakes. I will sincerely accept all criticisms and work to become a more careful and thoughtful person."

Meanwhile, the 'Bumjeop' mega crew stage led by Honey J has received explosive reactions, surpassing 10 million views on Mnet's official YouTube channel 'The Dance' (더 춤) within just three days, showcasing the evolved aspects of K-dance through its outstanding direction and choreography.
